Recruiting vs Rankings

A.) Meyer did not invent his offense. He made adaptations to an offense that has been around for a long time. His adaptations were not even that REVOLUTIONARY. He just studied and learned the system inside out. He is an expert at it and runs it very well.

B.) Yeah, Fulmer cant and never has been able to coach. Thank goodness he is the LUCKIEST man alive to have won over 80% of his games and a National Championship even though he has no clue how to coach. I'm amazed he hasn't won the lottery yet. He must not buy lottery tickets or he would have surely won by now. (sarcasm in case you couldn't denote my tone)

Right now I am hoping that at the end of next season I will be able to draw a corollary between the 2005 Vols (#2 recruiting class, huge Cotton Bowl win in '04, preseason Top 5, and falls flat) and the 2006 Gators (#1 or 2 recruiting class, huge Outback Bowl win, definitely a preseason Top 5, and ????). Notice, I did say hoping not anticipating.

It is always a possibility. Florida's schedule is pretty rough. Some big games on the road, like you guys and FSU.

I'd feel batter about it if Leak was leaving. I think our big upset possibilities will be Bama and UGA due to the new QBs.

Right you are. he'll put up a few more years of average but not great seasons like say a R.C. Slocum did at A&M and eventually resign and fade into the sunset with a nice severance package. In the interim I think I'll plan some skiing trips out west around New Years when the major bowls are played.

RC Slocum, huh? ok. :nono: what exactly did RC do at A&M that could compare with what CPF has done at UT???

I don't know, sounds like a little bit of rationalizing to me from fans of a program that has not recruited very well at all so far this year.

Just being honest.

Close, but not quite. He's actually stating that UT has had several highly ranked recruiting classes in recent years, but they have produced very little.

Double whammy, then. Getting C and B players and coaches are not doing much with them.

Speaking of the past season, does anyone know if there were anymore excessive celebration penalties called besides the one that was called against Vandy at Florida, which I might add, probably cost them the game. Just wondering.

Not that it mattered in the long run but I could not believe that the USC running back (not Bush) was not called for high stepping into the end zone on one of his TDs. I thought it was a muscular version of Deion Sanders out there.

We will have a Top 25 class this year
We had the #1 class last year
Top 15 classes the year before

Recruiting is not nor will not be a problem in the future.

In 14 years as head coach at Texas A&M RC had a record of 123-47-2. Won 4 conference championships (more than CPF's). He never had a losing season(Fulmer just did). Unfortunately his last few years were subpar and A&M correctly, in my opinion, jettisioned this favorite son and former A&M player. It remains to be seen if Fran was the correct hire but definitely Coach Slocum was the correct fire.

:horse: How long will Fulmer's NC capital last U-T? Ask Michigan fans how long that Loyd Carr will last if he has a 5-6 season? Many of our younger fans can barely remember 98. Certainly not HS recruits.

High school recruits think playing time and national TV exposure. To them it's not that complicated, even though they act otherwise when the media are talking to them. And '98 may seem distant, but there are a lot of programs out there that only wish they'd sniffed a title all those years ago.

HS recruits remember the National Championship in '98. You know why? Because UTK coaches let them know when they talk to them. When the recruits come in for a visit they see the trophy. There is nothing you can do to replace that situation, actually seeing the trophy while visiting UTK. I can imagine it is very impressive.

Then BYU, Georgia Tech, and Clemson should have "Top Ten" recruiting classes every year when they show those prospects their Crystal Football? Righttttttt....!

Ok, I read my post again and nowhere in my post did I even bring up Top 10 classes. Someone made the comment that recruits today don't even realize UTK won a NC in '98. I was just correcting that comment. Don't put words in peoples mouth, its impolite. But, on a side note to compare the tradition UTK carries and the success of the program over the last 15 years to Clemson, BYS, and Georgia Tech is kinda ridiculous don't you think?
