I could be wrong but I dont think any coach always recruits one specific area of the country. Yeah some coaches have ties in certain areas and would be better suited to recruit those areas, but I just dont think they soley focus on one area all the time year in and year out.

Actually, General I remember when CDD first formed his staff, recruiting area assignments were listed. I remember Thompson had Georgia and some areas in Florida, Joseph had Louisiana and Hinshaw had Memphis. I can't tell you from memory who had other areas and besides this may have changed since then. But I do believe you are correct in that there are assigned areas. I'm sure there is also carry over from one coach to another depending upon position coaches making in put.

I think Hinshaw helped with any Memphis kids. We usually do not get much from Memphis area.

A question was asked about recruiting ties in certain areas during Coach Dooley's signing day press conference. He basically said "ties help, but if you can recruit, you can recruit" Others commented above that certain coaches probably have assigned areas, but I don't think it's a strict policy.

Eric Russell signed three out of Florida and he has no ties down there- Paraphrased from the PC

You can listen here: (the question about coaches and areas starts at 15:18)
