Recruiting Sites Exposed

For clarity, here are UT's 5-stars from the past 10 years, according to Rivals:

2002:
James Banks
Mondre Dickerson
Brandon Jeffries
Jonathan Mapu
Gerald Riggs

2003:
Robert Meachem

2004:
Jesse Mahelona
Albert Toeaina

2005:
Demetrice Morley

2006:
Walter Fisher

2007:
Eric Berry
Chris Donald
Ben Martin
Kenny O'Neal
Brent Vinson

2009:
Bryce Brown
Janzen Jackson

2010:
Da'Rick Rogers

About what percentage of these lived up to their 5-star billing?

Some notable 3-stars: Arian Foster (2004), Dan Williams (2005), Luke Stocker (2006), Denarius Moore (2007)

How do you determine that? Banks was an all-star when he was on the team but off the field is what cost him.

Mapu was a hoss before he left on a mission trip.

Vinson was a good CB while he was here but off the field issues cost him.

Morley was good a DB but he couldn't stay in school.

JJ was phenomenal on the field and Brown backed up a 2nd round pick about as good as you could ask for.

Do you see my point? Rivals didn't get their talent level wrong.

Here's what I got from the article.... If Tennessee were a top 10 school, our recruits' rankings would be higher.

Nice Article. Thanks for posting. I've long suspected this as probably everyone else has too. When we got the Juco DT Bradley last week, he wasn't rated. Then a day later he was rated a 4 star? They probably just looked at his offers and said 4 star. Didn't really have time to do it any other way. His teammate Johnson hasn't been rated yet? Seems to me that if it were legit, they would evaluate all the Jucos at once and then rate accordingly. But the Juco ratings aren't out yet and they are randomly rating some as they commit?
On the other hand, it is nice to know that the we are recruiting prospects that other coaching staffs want as well. I do feel better when we get a recruit like Ferguson last week and he also had offers from Alabama, LSU, and Michigan.

No, I agree, the Rivals list was impressive. Here is Scout's for comparison:

2002:
Mondre Dickerson
James Wilhoit
Brandon Jefferies
Jonathon Mapu
Gibril Wilson
Gerald Riggs

2003:
Robert Meachem
Eric Young

2004:
Jesse Mahelona
Albert Toeaina

2005:
Demetrice Morley
Jonathan Crompton
LaMarcus Coker

2007:
Ben Martin
Chris Donald
Eric Berry
Brent Vinson

2009:
Bryce Brown

2010:
Da'Rick Rogers

It's frustrating some of the great players we've lost due to off-the-field issues. It would have been interesting to have had Coker, Hardesty, and Brown in the same season.
