That is really the problem with the 3-4. You are basically teaching 2 defenses. A 30 front base D and a 40 front nickel D. And in football today, especially in college, you are going to use the nickel a lot more than the base. Florida and Alabama are probably the only teams we've played against who we were not in the nickel for the majority of the game. Looking back, it would have been better to stick with a 4-3.

they played 4 man lines but the responsibilities was that of a 30 front. that is what is taught.

MCCullers is playing two gap read football.

the DEs are playing head up and inside shoulder.

those arent 40 principles. we are so underwhelming skill and talent wise at the Jack position that we should have scrapped that idea in the Spring game.

Another thing to think about, is we have been in the nickel (40 front) a lot more this year than in the base (30 front). We would be using the same players in a 4-3 as we are now in a 3-4. Couch would move to 3T and Smith to DE.

The bottom line is this. We can not rush the passer. Our secondary is horrid. Our linebackers are slow. It doesn't really matter what formation we are in. Those 3 things are a recipe for disaster. The fact that our defensive coaches appear incompentent doesn't help either.

it is not just the base, i would go cover 2 with 5 underneath because of all those things......bend but don't break.........less big plays...........wilcox did this basically because he understood the shortcomings of some of these guys

I agree. I'm not really talking about the coverage, more the alignment and gap control.

Never understood forcing a system on guys that couldn't play it. Especially after stating we would be "Multiple". Guess multiple busts is what he was talking about. They see Maggitt can't hold the point of attack so why not move him back off the line and keep him clean. He was flashing off the edge last year as a freshman in the 4-3. Willie Bo as much better as a 4-3 end. Sunseri has him covering TEs. Genius of course.......

The coverage calls are just pitiful. I haven't seen a team line up and play one coverage over and over again. This guy is calling these coverages like players will adjust themselves. He's got a safety in cover 1 that's leaving CBs out to dry. So the CBs will stop playing cover 1 man and play cover 0 man. Which is hell on a young CB's nerves knowing you can't really mess up because the safety won't be there to help. I watched Moore leave Gray out to dry on that 52 yard TD. I've been in a situation where you don't trust the safety. The CB won't make plays he should make because he's worried about this BS player at safety.

I'm past done with this stupid staff. Fade to Vincent Dallas but you have Hunter and CP on the field killing the CBs. We're getting 7 yards a pop running it but you pass twice from the 6 yard line. But people say Chaney isn't the problem. He's so stupid at times it makes no sense. CP is this dynamic but no screens all year. If he leaves I can't blame him at all. Not designing plays to get him open in big games and dictate coverages is stupid. Hunter and Patterson could've been used as decoys to get Zro, Rivera, Howard, and Dallas open or 1v1 coverage versus any defensive scheme.

Recruiting is another story in itself......all these questionable takes a biting us in the behind. And I know posters will bash me for some of this but certain guys should've never been offered. We should've had a bunch of ships open like Georgia. You don't pick up guys to just fill a damn roster. There are only a certain guys out of the 83-85 that could play on the rosters of the teams we watched tonight. And damn near every one of them is on offense. A healthy Maggit, Sentimore, McCullers, AJ(maybe) Jordan Williams(he would be used right) would/could play now for these teams. O'Brien, T.Taylor, and Phillips would be redshirted on those teams. Gray, Bonner(hope he's cleared), McNeil in the secondary would all be worth a scholarship on these squads but they wouldn't play this year. Everyone else wouldn't be on the radar on defense. I'm done with this BS. We gave up 700+ today to Troy. We are the laughing stock of the SEC these days. I'm embarassed by the product Dooley and crew want me to support in his 3rd year. No true crippling injuries to this team = No Excuses for this BS. He's recruiting for a solid team which isn't good enough I want rings year in and year out. If not I want to be Top 5-10 every year. This is unacceptable.

I said play this year. Most schools were going to put him at DE. Maggitt is the elite guy when he's healthy.

AJ is one of the best defensive players in the sec man..what's wrong with his play? He's literally been our only player to show up week in and week out on the defensive side of the ball.

He's not setting the tone that's what the problem is. Making tackles and making plays are two different things to me. I watched two LBs in the Bama-LSU game that are better MLBs. Georgia and Florida have better MLBs too. So how high is AJ on your defensive playmaker list? I'm being realistic about it. How many turnovers is he forcing? What about tackles for loss? How many RBs is he blasting? This my issue. Just because we think he's good doesn't mean he's on the level of the guys at these elite programs. They're guys are on a different level athletically to me. Some of it is scheme and another thing is the mental makeup of the coaches. They should've stopped that body slamming tackling a while back.

Actually if you break down game film, you see a few areas hes lacking. AJ has problems at times disengaging from blockers. He gets lazy during games and grabs at runners instead of hitting them, i also think this second issue is because hes on the field way too much.

I was discussing this with Tha Don a few weeks back. After AJ body slammed the Florida guy and got on the gameday highlight package he's been trying to do it to everybody.

Also like you stated he has trouble disengaging from blocks. He's entirely too big to have problems shedding blocks. I've watched Ogletree, Bostic, Nico Johnson, and Minter play for a years now. They all make plays that all game and not just tackles. I watched Minter shed Barret Jones like water and run down the line to make a tackle. Bostic has taken over games this year. Johson is a monster in the run game. And Ogletree is the best overall out of the group athletically(the former safety is gifted).

He may be on the field too much but he does some of this stuff fresh. I watched him get a tackle in the backfield against Georgia where I was sure he was going to punish the back but he basically baby-bear hugged him to the ground. That's BS for a LB that's 245lbs and I think it starts with the head man. He's soft and it trickles down within your team. Muschamp said that he tells his defense "You guys are the firemen now go put out the fire". I doubt Dooley even talks to his defense.

Even as an offensive coach Dooley should know what he wants out of a defense. He's clueless about what he wants the identity of this team to be. He came in with a toughness about him year 1. Year 2 he quit so his team folded with him. Year 3 he has no identity and his team doesn't either. The team played better Dooley's first year than in any other year. They had a true grit about them. But Dooley did too at that point. But now he's just a chump of a coach. And needs to be gone tomorrow.
