The Vols are back in action after a tough loss in Athens. This is a game that we need to rest some banged up guys, but also to get the ship righted and moving full steam ahead. Also, we should have a little motivation, as the former coach of Austin Peay brings his UTEP Miners to town. We remember last year how dirty his APSU team played against us, so I expect Heupel to have a little extra motivation to run the score up a little.

Keys to the game:

1. Can the TN defense from the first 8 weeks please stand up? Can we maybe get a blitz called again some time this year? I don’t care if the DL is getting home untouched or not, call some blitzes!! The attitude of the unit feeds off of the mindset and attitude of the coach. As the game progressed last Saturday night, we started dropping our heads, missing tackles, and playing less aggressively than we have all year. That’s because I think the players hated the soft, non-aggressive mindset of our DC. Quit being soft and setting back! Attitude reflects leadership.

2. Can we please get our offense back doing what we used to do in the first couple years, and go fast more times than not?! We move the ball successfully when we are going fast. We did it in the first quarter last week, and scored 10 points. Why don’t we continue doing it when it is working? This is a get healthy and get right game. We need this offense to start clicking.

3. Special teams is becoming more special. Gonna go ahead and call this…Boo will return a punt for 6, as long as they kick it to him and not out of bounds. He’s special. Makes me wonder why he hasn’t been back there all year. Also, kudos to Max Gilbert for overcoming the abysmal game earlier in the year (against UK I think), and kicking it very well in a hostile environment.

4. UTEP is way inferior. If we show up, we win big. It’s as simple as that.

5. We finally get a day game! We like early games, so we come out firing on all cylinders.

Prediction: This game will be over by halftime, and we will get some rest for guys who are banged up to get ready for Vandy.

It's Senior day and supposed to be beautiful in Knoxville. There's been lots of memories made by this class and I appreciate them getting this train rolling.

I hope Nico and Gaspipe el Pasos for 300 yards a piece. 🙃20241118_232652.gif
