It’s Florida week at a very different time of the year. This is usually a September game, but for the first time in I don’t know when, we are playing them at the end of the season (Dec 2001 is the last time but that was a rescheduled game due to 9-11). We come into this game and have no idea what is going on with this team. Let’s all agree…yesterday was a very uninspired, poor performance. Yes, we won easily, but we looked like dog poop doing it. On the other hand, Florida comes into this game at 3-7, no bowl, an interim HC, but actually playing tough, physical football. Add to that, they get a primetime game on ABC at 7:30pm, and you can bet that they will be ready to play and beat us. This will be their bowl game, and they know that no matter what they look like, they always beat us more times than not or lose a close game. We have only won 4 times in Gainesville. This game is a recipe for disaster it seems. Here are a few keys to the game.

1. Can we overcome the mental hurdle of beating Florida in general plus beating them in the swamp? This is the biggest key to me. I think we are a way better team than them but Florida is always our cryptonite no matter what our team looks like. Not sure anything changes this week.

2. Can we stop the run? Baugh is a very good physical RB and Lagway can run it too. Can we slow them down and make Lagway throw the ball? We get gashed usually up the gut by decent teams. Not sure this game is any different. I expect Baugh to have a big game.

3. Which team shows up for us? Not sure here either. Yesterday’s team was very uninspired. Are we checked out since we are out of the playoffs, or was it because of the opponent and Boo getting the boot, and the team was very distracted? Not sure here either and have no idea what to expect.

4. Can we protect the ball for a change, and can Joey quit throwing it to the other team? I almost feel like Joey has regressed some. I got the feeling he was hesitant to pull the trigger yesterday which hasn’t been his MO all year. Florida has a pretty good defense and play aggressive at the LOS, as well as get pressure with blitzes. I am concerned they force Joey to make some mistakes again to change momentum.

5. Can we run the ball? We have kind of struggled doing this a lot this year. However, Ole Miss ran the ball very well, and many times they did it between the tackles. That might bode well for us as that is about the only place we like to run the ball.

6. WHERE IS ALL OF THE MOTION AND WRINKLES WE INSTALLED FOR GEORGIA? That’s all I’ll say about this. It seems we installed that stuff for one team and then forgot about it. Our playcalling lacks a lot of creativity.

7. Does McCoy play? If he’s healthy and plays, that might help us defensively some, but he will be on a limited snap count.

Prediction: Every year when this game comes around, I think this is the year that we blow these jackwads out of the stadium, and then we lose it or the game is way too close for comfort. This is another year that seems the same. It would seem they have nothing to play for, but we really don’t either, albeit we have more to play for than they do. Put their team in different uniforms and I think we win by 20+. However, their helmets will have a gator on it and our will have the power T, which means they will look like a Tebow team against us. First time I have done this all year, but I’m really down on this team and the product that I see on the field.

Felt better before this last game. Hopefully we will take some pride and get er done.

I just dont think we can match their physicality, lack of leadership, and running game thwarts us esp inside the 20.

Florida's only weakness on D is subject to big play. Ole Miss still had to out physical them and made plays. Dont think we can run it enough to get WR's open enough to house it.

Tennessee - 31
Gaturds - 28

Ok, flipping the script. Here's positive juju.

Nah. Unless we get a very favorable bowl matchup, this is our last win of the season. And honestly, if we drop both these games, I question if this team will have any real interest in a bowl game. 7-6 is on my radar.

Why? What is FL playing for that they can get up for a game and we can’t?

Did you watch FL vs UK? Had completely given up. Then they fight like hell last night.

Taking WAY too much from one game vs an overmatched team.

I will add that they always play Ole Miss well

I hate that both Florida and Oklahoma got to play Ole Miss the week before playing Tennessee. Ole Miss has the most similar offense to Tennessee in the SEC. It’s like they got an extra week to prepare for us and even a full game practice against our offense.

But maybe it also gave Tennessee an opportunity to see what works and what doesn’t against those defenses. It’s not like we didn’t move the ball against Oklahoma.

Fun little full circle moment in the sec, as no matter how good we are and bad florida is, they always seem to win. Same thing with us and kentucky-no matter how good they are we still find ways to win. And funny thing is Kentucky is that kryptonite to florida.

Regardless of Florida’s record, they will put up a fight. At this point, it feels like we are either going 7-5 or 9-3, I dont see us splitting vandy/uf. The fact of the matter is though, this team has played like 💩 the last 2 games, and I dont see us magically fixing that

Thinking we couldn’t split is crazy talk. Every team in cfb is capable of looking bad then looking unbeatable the very next week. It’s what makes college sports the best

Am I being overdramatic by saying this is one of the more important games in the Heupel era?

Yes.

A win says more than a loss. 3-7 team that’s playing better than and is more talented than their record. Has a track record of beating us. We are out of playoff contention. Would be an easy game to lose and give excuses for. If heupels team gets up and plays to their potential and wins this game, that will speak to his ability to motivate and keep the locker room engaged. Would put us back in momentum to finish the season on wins and hit 10 wins going into offseason.

It’s always important playing uf. Even when they’re coachless and 3-7. But I don’t think it’s one of the most important games of the heupel era. Can’t believe I’m saying this but it’s not even one of the most important games of this season after dropping uga, bama, and OU.

Why not? Losing to this 3-7 Florida team will kill a ton of goodwill and momentum we’ve built. Why not?

Bc next season this game won’t even matter one way or the other.

If we go 6-6 next year no one is gonna be like “well yea but we beat FL @ FL last year”.

If we go 11-1 next year no one is gonna be like “these games were important but not as important as beating that 3-7 FL team last year”.

And it’s not like this FL team is getting routed (excluding UK game and Miami for the most part). They’re in every game.

Now I’ll say it’s important for this dramatic fanbase.
