Kirkland and Bituli on field together would be nice.
Agree. Have Sapp available for Star with Kelly. It's time to play real LB's again. McDowell improved some late in the season as well. Those 4 would give them a nice rotation.
Bituli is a legitimate 230+ as a true freshman. Not much body fat. With a strong S&C he can go 240 easy and not lose any quickness.

I might have oversold his weight by a pot roast, but he hasn't even had a full collegiate offseason yet.
Really excited to see what Gullickson can do with Bituli (among others).
And middle linebackers need to have instincts and recognition. We know Kirkland does...jury's out on Bituli.
Totally agree with that. Not saying to give the job to Bituli just because of his size. Just that ideally, he's ready to go at a high enough level we can let Kirkland play a bit more in space since we've seen him struggle at times with taking on blockers and staying healthy.
Ultimately the coaches have to decide what the best combo of LBs is. I'm just hoping that combo involves Bituli.
The physicality he's showing already is what I like. He has zero regard for annihilating a man in his way. We need that out of every LB. If they don't think like that I don't want him on the roster. LBs should be the craziest players on the defense.
Which is what UT used to be noted for and has been lacking for quite awhile now. We need more 230-240 lbs. crazy guys that would just as soon level people as look at them. Not pile checkers and blocking dummies. JRM style with more meat on them. Jerod Mayo, Al Wilson, etc. all the way back to Hacksaw and Kiner. Kirkland and Bituli have it in them. Want to see more.

I don't know if I expect too much or what, but most of our guys who have been on campus for 2-3 years don't look like they've been in a college S&C program for that long. Not to single anyone out but, Bates for example. He just looks like some regular dude on the street to me.

I think our S&C is lacking but individual accountability is at play too. I see every year at the combine embarrassing numbers put up. Like 320 lb OL benching 225 for less than 20 reps. So ultimately it's on the HC and S&C coach to make sure these guys are putting in the work, but the players have to want to get stronger and not just go through the motions and do the bare minimum.
