Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XIII

I just can't understand why everyone is so mad at the commish but is letting the prosecutors slide, IMO, they tied his hands. They let ray rice off with no jail time so why would they fire him from the league if the justice system didn't deem it bad enough for any real punishment. The prosecutors are who everyone should be upset with.

Again, the owners like Goodell too much for him to resign IMO. He does basically everything they want.

To switch to a more light-hearted topic, I am headed to Florida tomorrow. We're going to Disney Sat-to-Sat for my son's 5th birthday. He turns 5 on Monday.

I planned the trip to where one of the Saturdays would be UT's off-week, and the Oklahoma game is at night.
So the plan is to push and push and absolutely wear the kids out Saturday. And get them in bed so I can watch the game in relative peace in the room.

It will test my self-control to see if I can keep from yelling at the TV and waking up the kids.

I don't think Goodell loses his job. the guy has been criticized for over-discipline of players and absolutely crushed the Saints. I sincerely doubt he was doing Ray Rice any favors.

It would be somewhat ironic if he got fired for that, though.

Good deal. Glad you don't have to go as far to see a game. My brother is in the same situation- he lives in NW Arkansas and can't get to many games. So, we are going together.

I still have some Texan in me, but I was raised in Memphis and went to UT. I like to think I have "dual citizenship."

Man, you could be from Indonesia, marry someone from France, and live in Barbados...as long as you are a Volunteer, you're family.

Some specific things I think we can do schematically against Oklahoma, what do you guys think?

- Bait the QB/slot receiver into a slant/hitch on 3rd and medium when they are in/near our red zone, and drop Maggitt (a LB) into coverage from the DE position. Blitz the other side of the line. I don’t think they’ve seen this on our film, and an INT when the opponent is about to score is monumental

- Throw a go-route or hitch-and-go to North (maybe Smith – their CB2 is a first-year starter, CB1 is very good) in a clear running/short-yardage situation (3rd and 2 from our 35). “Splash” plays, especially to our WR corps can keep us competitive, and with the pressure they will likely be able to get on Worley, the risk/reward of getting one of these plays is worth it.

- Screens to Lane/Hurd to the right side early in the game – almost too obvious to list. 2 true freshman lining up at RG/RT, DL will be expecting to beat them. If we catch them rushing 1-2 right-sided LB’s, we could have a ton of open space. This can at least slow the pass rush down a little bit.

- Blitz from the secondary. Michael Williams is fast as ****, with FS help over the top for Coleman. Coleman should be able to blitz from the nickel/over the slot receiver.

- A couple of designed runs for Worley. They are expecting him to pull the ball on the zone-read a couple times, but he will be largely unaccounted for once the zone-read threat has passed. He’s not that slow, and a QB draw is often good for 5 yards, especially out of a 3-4 wide set. Note to JW – slide, for goodness sake!

I've seen a lot of tornado jokes this week.
As someone from west tennessee who has seen several devestating tornadoes, I do not find these jokes funny at all. People lose their lives every year in tornadoes...it's not a laughin matter.

You're calling for WR tunnel/middle screens right?

No, the one where the OL let them the DL through and we lob it to the RB with the OL blocking for him.

I asked on here a while ago what that was called and was told middle screen. My bad for lousy football terminology of that's not right.

I went to Disney World several times as a kid...apparently. I don't remember going.

One of my best childhood memories was a similar trip in 1990. I was around 8 and we were making the drive from Knoxville to Orlando for Disney.

We had stopped at a motel around Valdosta, or maybe a little farther on in to Florida. My parents had stopped in time to watch UT/Florida game. We got a call from the front desk because we were yelling so loud in the 2nd half.

Good times.
