Just watched CJP's presser. He sounds so much better now than he did last year. He is more calm, isn't stuttering a lot, and you can tell he has come around to his players. To me, he no longer feels distant from his players when talking. He sounds like a true football coach who has his own team and is proud of them. No doubt he expects and believes we will be much better this season.

Just signed up at the new Planet Fitness about to open near work.

Going to go 5 days a week at lunch and hit a single muscle group each day (trying to maximize reps 15+ per set) and then hit at least 30 minutes of cardio. Will start out is walking then work my way up.

Might alternate cardio and do HIIT Tues/Thurs for 10-15 minutes to switch it up. Where you at @nicksjuzunk ???
Nearly impossible to hit single muscle groups consistently, not beneficial to either cause you miss the good stuff I.e. deadlifts, rows, presses, etc. HIIT is legit. Cardio is heart rate. If you want to get some cardio in, workout harder with less rest in between sets. Can also hit another muscle group while resting. HIIT will do that for you nicely.

Yeah and you want to hit each main muscle group at least twice a week unless you're an elite lifter. I would more recommend upper body / lower body splits. I focus on different lifts, but I have 4 workouts, an A and a B for upper and another for lower. So like lower A focuses on squats, and adds a deadlift accessory, then lower B focuses on deadlifts and adds front squats.

Hitting your chest once a week or squatting just once a week is too little frequency, especially for a beginner.

I've read all the various research on muscle group training and doing total body etc. ultimately for the goals I have this is the best option for me and my schedule.

I do however plan to again focus on high volume/reps rather than heavy weight. I'm also going to compound lift for each group as much as possible with barbell focus.

So back day I'll do bent over barbell rows, shoulder day standing barbell military, chest bb bench, arms will bb curl, legs will squat etc. I just meant I want to focus on specific groups each day. I seem to respond well to the extra recovery it gives me.

I went for a week where I ran for 1 minute and did some combination of Push ups, set ups, crunches, bodyweight squats, lunges (really any bodyweight only exercise you can think of) for 1 minute amd alternated between the two for 26 minutes. It's a nice change of pace If you bang weights and use cardio machines. If you're not a runner start with 7 minutes and work your way up.

I’ve been doing full body workouts 3x weekly since March 2018. Figure I’ll keep it up until I’m too sore/fatigued by the workouts, then switch to splits. As you said, as a beginner I don’t think I’m able to lift heavy enough to need to split muscle groups yet.

Diapers are easy. The tough part about being a parent, if you're going to be a good one, which I assume you will be, is that life as you know it is over. And that's okay. Going out, having fun, movies and dinner dates with your wife, just having the overall freedom to do whatever, whenever, is over. That baby is now in charge and he/she will dictate your life 24/7 and that won't really change much until they're out of diapers, old enough to dress themselves, make a bowl of cereal, little things like that will feel like amazing wins as a parent. It's a process, a wonderful journey I wouldn't trade for ANYTHING.

You'll soon realize that you love that baby/toddler/child more than anything you've ever loved by a wide margin. And that comes with incredible responsibility and changes to your thinking. For example; you'll begin to have irrational fears (or at least I do), which really caught me off guard, I never had those thoughts before kids. You'll just randomly have these fearful thoughts about something bad happening to your child and it terrifies you! And this isn't to scare you at all, it's awesome being a dad, but just know that if you're a good parent NOTHING matters more to you than your children. A hug from my 6 year old can be the best thing that happens to me all day. Playing basketball with my 9yo and blocking his shots to teach him about hard work, is awesome. All these little things that you won't realize until they actually happen to you, mean more than any movie, date, concert, or vacation you missed out on.

And then when they start to get older you realize (like I am these days) that, "Oh ****, these kids are going to be adults in the blink of an eye!" And that makes me sad because they're wonderful and amazing and soon will likely hate me at times as a teen and young adult lol. Right now I'm the king of the world, and that's a great place to be. The days are long but the years are short, my friend. Enjoy it, be great at it, and you'll be filled with an unimaginable amount of joy and happiness just from a smile or a hug.

I wish someone had given me this pep talk when I was younger. Cue: "I wish that I knew what I know now when I was younger..."

Seriously, you sound like an awesome Dad!

So I know some of you are beer snobs/small brew fans... I just tried Highland Brewing's Gaelic Ale and it's dang good -- good enough that I'm going to try their other brews. It's brewed in Asheville so proximity likely helps (freshness and all).

I wish they would bring back their Devil's Britches IPA they had a few years back.

Sounds like our offense is gonna look completely different from 2018

Chaney on how much control JG will have at the line. "All of it, all that he can handle. He's a smart guy and he needs to be able to adjust when necessary"

Tee Martin on receivers. "We're going to try to get as many of them involved as we can, the different skill sets. They're gonna be a major part of our offense this year".

Edit: JM also spoke of Chandler's play making ability and the need to get the ball to your playmakers

I will say it was interesting/honest when Chaney said he didn't believe you could coach around an OL. "You can't hide them". Some just kept saying last year Helton wasn't coaching around them. Maybe such an idea was only a myth or wishful thinking.

Either way, we'll only go as far as this OL can take us.
