Devotional — Matthew 11:28
Scripture — Matthew 11:28 (NIV)
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Reflection
Jesus doesn’t say, “Come to me once you’ve figured it out,” or “Come when you’re strong enough.” He says, come when you’re weary. The invitation assumes exhaustion. It names it without shame.
Rest here isn’t just sleep or relief from busyness. It’s the laying down of what we were never meant to carry alone—control, outcomes, guilt, fear, self-reliance. Jesus offers rest not as an escape from responsibility, but as a different way of living: yoked to Him instead of crushed by expectation.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, I come to You aware of my weariness. I confess how easily I carry burdens You never asked me to hold. Teach me to come quickly instead of striving longer. Let Your rest quiet my soul, steady my heart, and realign my trust in You. I receive Your invitation today. Amen.
