Recruiting Forum: Football Talk IX

I figured that might have something to do with, thus the kittycat reference :)

Only difference though is UK is good in their dominate sport right now. We aren't.

UK has always sucked in football. We at least have a decent team in basketball every now and then.

99.9999% football talk and you're whining over a couple pages of bball talk after opening night, on a football bye week on top of it, on a FREE site?

Yep. I realize most of the regulars don't venture out of this thread much, but there is a whole forum dedicated to basketball. This particular thread was once very useful for getting rational updates on practices, player status and recruiting. Now it looks like the football forum with the words changed to basketball.

btw, what does the cost of the site have to do withit? That was a random and irrelevant comment.

Speakn of the Cats we damn well better beat Vandy because I've got tickets to UK game and it will be much less exciting if we are not goin up there to play for a bowl.

"was once very useful?"

You're acting like it's been weeks since a football comment was made. It's been a couple pages over the course of a few hours on a bye week.

The free comment was because you're acting entitled to having something your way even though you don't pay for it.

Not trying to be a jerk, but you came across to me as acting entitled and bothered about less than 100 posts about bball. Apologies if I took it the wrong way.

Anyone know if our incoming DB's are good at playing man to man? If so, do you think we will see a lot more bump-n-run?

There are updates made all the time about the players, in posts under their name.

Apparently UT had its toughest/most hard-hitting practice of the year yesterday, according to Basilio. TIFWIW.

I stayed outa here all morning thinking at lunch you guys would have some nice nuggets for me. Bye week sucks for fans

I think CBP's run and gun style would fit this current team much better than CCM's defensive oriented and slow it down style. This team may be the most athletic we've had in a while. What happened last night in the closing minutes when we started pressing and playing fast on offense? A 13-2 run to get to within 3. Cuonzo needs to let these boys run, imo.

I'm behind Cuonzo 100% but if he doesn't produce this year with this talent I think he needs to go. Next year won't be any easier losing McRae, Maymon, Stokes(likely), Barton, and whoever else. We'll see how it plays out.

I'm not even gonna lie though, if it doesn't work out this year, I wouldn't be against bringing Bruce back. Not one bit. That doesn't mean I'm hoping we tank this year, either. It's just CBP came in and created an energy around the program that had been missing for quite some time. Similar to what Butch has done with football so far. He took us to the top being ranked #1 for the first time in UT history and missed the final four by a point or two.

I hate to say it and I really hope I'm wrong but I kinda feel like CCM may be our Dooley of basketball and we may not realize it until another coach comes in and takes this program to the level it has the potential to be at consistently. Yes, he has recruited pretty well, but imo, there are a lot of coaches out there that could do just as well or better with everything UT has to sell. After all, most of Volnation thought Dooley was doing a decent job up until the end and then Butch comes in and we're all scratching our heads wondering wtf were we thinking. I know this is just the start of year 3 under Cuonzo and I hope he builds a power house, I really do, but I do miss CBP being the lead story on sports center bc he's drenched in sweat from his passion for winning and coaching. I jump around a lot and spend time in all the forums. I use the "New Post" button to search for anything new and often this thread jumps to the top. In the past that meant someone posted something new relevant to football. But not so much lately. Consequently, I have no problem saying this thread has dropped off in usefulness and I think the comment on us being 4-6 is probably the most accurate as to the reason why.

And, quite frankly, I don't care if you are trying to be a jerk or not, but you guys set this up as a football discussion among those who tend to stay in the recruiting forum. There are many knowledgeable posters in here and many who are adept at finding good sources of info and quoting them here. That is useful to some of us who access VN at work so we can continue to work while reading VN. Other times this thread becomes the "whatever the recruiting gurus want to talk about thread." When that happens I think someone should remind the group of the original purpose of the thread and see if it gets back on track. I waited 3 pages to say something...simple as that, no need to be sensitive about it.

We can talk about entitlements in the Politics forum if you want.

Man, did the round ballers stink last night or what? OK - the basketball break is over. Back to the serious business of UT football.

Which is the numbers crunch that I am so excited about. After all this program has gone through there will be at least 30 top performing studs coming to Rocky Top to turn this puppy around. Culling the herd with 30 already in the holding pen and more waiting on the trailer. That is amazing. Looking forward to the journey.

This is a forbidden post: :)

The numbers crunch may be painful to some.

Butch's 30 Number:

QB = 0
RB = 2 Hurd[GIA], and (Williams or Law)
WR = 5 Creamer[EE/L], Pearson[EE],Wharton[L], Evan Berry[L], and (Malone[EE/TN] or Booth)
TE = 2 Helm[EE], Wolf[EE]
OL = 4 Blair[GIA], Thomas[GIA], and 2 of ( Brown, Sharpe, Gennesy, Bookser, or Raulerson)
K = 1 Medley[TN]
DE = 3 Lambert[EE], Hendrix, Henderson
DT = 3 Reed[EE], Mixon[EE], Barnett[TN]
LB = 5 Johnson[EE], Bates[L], Elliot Berry[L], and 2 of (Garrett, Weatherd, Mouhon, Bryant)
DB = 5 Moseley[GIA], Payne[EE],Kelly[L],Gaulden[TN], and (Jackson or McDowell)
Total = 30

First in are EE's who have already signed GIA's
Second in are remaining EE's
Third in are Legacies that are not EE's
Fourth in are TN kids that are not EE's
Left to add are best available based on position/roster needs

Again, this is just the way I see the wind blowing today. Mid-year enrollment begins Dec 18 and ends Jan 15 so we'll have a smaller picture to look at in a little more than a month. I'll be watching to see if any EE's are told to look around because I'll be a bit surprised if Mosley[TN] is not a part of this class. If there's a change in the distribution I think it would be because we come up one short in LB and that spot could be used elsewhere.

jmo.

Well, we look back at Dooley as a complete f*** up. I doubt we will about Zo, but who knows.

Zo just really got a raw deal - Bruce's tenure at Tennessee was probably one of the fastest program build jobs in the history of Men's basketball. In three years he took a perennial bubble team to #1 in the country.

Take Coach K, Bill Self, Roy Williams, or any other super coach and I think they'd have a hard time replicating that success in such a short time frame. I'm not saying Bruce is better than these guys, just that what he did was miraculous.

I wish you guys would take this argument somewhere else. You're ruining my experience on this forum.
