Let me ask you this...do you really think that any NFL team in the process of hiring a coach has thought "You know, I actually think this black guy is the best person for the job, but we don't like black people, so we're gonna hire this white guy who isn't as qualified?" Because if you think racism exists today in NFL hiring decisions, that's essentially what you think is taking place. That’s awesome if you were everyone out there. Also you SEE race...you just don’t let it influence your decisions? I’ve lived too long to agree with the bolded. I’m not for MANDATING who people hire...just make them explain their answer better. There are those who bash the Rooney Rule and that’s ridiculous imo. These are individual billion dollar corporations when we’re talking NFL and multimillion dollar ventures when we’re talking NCAA. You can only do so much, but not letting them hire and hide isn’t socialism.
Was at that Ga game and that is the loudest I've ever heard it. Bone chilling loud. Could feel it in your marrowI’ve heard people say this is the loudest moment in Neyland history. I’ve also heard the Travis Stephens go ahead TD against Georgia in 01. My personal loudest was Jennings burning Tabor in 16.
I think there are owners who are quick to hire who they’re comfortable with...and quick to be enamored with the hot new thing. Doubt any actually spout “We don’t like black people” when going that route. So no...I don’t ESSENTIALLY THINK that.Let me ask you this...do you really think that any NFL team in the process of hiring a coach has thought "You know, I actually think this black guy is the best person for the job, but we don't like black people, so we're gonna hire this white guy who isn't as qualified?" So you don't actually think there's racism in hiring then. Hiring someone you know or being enamored with the hot new thing isn't racist. The social circle of most people is mostly made up of people from the same demographic background as them, and there isn't anything racist about it.I think there are owners who are quick to hire who they’re comfortable with...and quick to be enamored with the hot new thing. In a perfect world, that would work...however many people that hire, hire people that looks like them...some NFL owner said that. A lot of times it’s not intentional...it’s a bias not realizedWhy does it have to be about race? Why can’t we hire the best and employ who we think is the best candidate. If that means black, white, Asian, etc. then hire who is the best fit.
As a white coach, the implication that I can't impact Black athletes is ridiculous and evidence strongly indicates otherwise. We don't coach black players or white players, we coach kids.Comparing to general population isn't the number worth discussing, in my opinion.
61% of college football players are black. 10.8% of college head coaches are black.
