That sucks.

We haven't recovered enough to withstand something like that and my wife switched jobs a month ago. She was doing contract work previously so there would be no form of unemployment.

But the thought of her being around sick people all day, in sevierville no less, drives me crazy.
Luckily I'm 1 of 3 that get to stay in my department at the moment, but who knows how long that will last

My company makes menus, menu books, wood boards, coasters, etc.... pretty much everything for restaurants, casinos, clubs, etc.

We are getting hit pretty hard but I'm truly blessed to work for a family owned company that is big enough to withstand the hit and has said they will keep paying all employees.

My commission will dip but at least I will still have a weekly pay check. Best wishes that all of you Moran's stay safe and financially secure.

It's good seeing companies understand that both the employer and employee need to work together during this.

Folks - this is a momentary affliction. Painful, but temporary. Try to stay positive, lean and healthy as we work through the short term layoffs and missed paychecks with some. Help one another as you feel led. Once this Chinese virus recedes over the coming weeks things will roar back stronger than ever. Be ready at that point to even upgrade your employment if the opportunity presents itself. As a nation we will be better prepared going forward. A lot is being learned and adjusted.

Nice positive outlook. I too agree seeing how a lot of communities are coming together we will Roar back 2x as strong as we were

Easy to say if you aren't in danger of losing everything that makes life worth living.
i think his point was, people don’t understand the stress our healthcare system is under right now and if we don’t flatten curve on folks getting this virus then we could be Italy. Social distancing isn’t saying you won’t get it, it’s hope/aim is to make everyone not get it around the same time so our hospitals aren’t overrun.

There are people who live Paycheck to paycheck-- that HAS to be addressed if this goes on indefinitely.
I am one of those people. This has already cost me and my wife personally 2 days of work due to cancellations. That is about 180 to 200$ in lost wages so far, and our companies have told us to expect a lot more of that. We barely scrape by when everything is going well.

That is not counting the thousands I have lost in inheritance money in the last week and a half because of the stupid stock market panic.

I understand. Again hopefully we get some news soon with the testing. I think a huge source of panic and worry is the unknown.

I agree. I think the unknown is it, in part. But what about all the other unknowns we've had--sars, swine flu, ebola, etc.? We didn't react nearly the same to any of those. I think it's a combination of 2 things.

1. the media is taking advantage of this big time to create attention, reporting anything that serves that purpose whether it's from a reliable source or not. It's created the hysteria that has put tremendous pressure on governments at all levels. It's like they're reporting every single case, especially every sad situation. Imagine if they did the same with the flu or ebola or … Under that pressure no one wants to be the one that's accused of doing too little.

2. It's an election year. Enough said, but.... Politicians and politically-minded people are looking for an advantage, any way to take down their rival. This president is loathed by many and they're hoping to cause him to blow this or ruin the economy. He feels he must take drastic measures to keep them at bay. I believe much of this is political.

Correct. The vaccine is going to take longer than many people realize. It's not a one-and-done type of thing. And there is absolutely no way the government can place everyone in quarantine for 1 year. The utter chaos that would ensue would be astronomical. Especially since people need food, water, money for said neccessities, etc. I highly doubt it's going to get to that level. However, our Health sector is going to need help because even that area of our infrastructure has a limit. By placing a moderate level quarantine we are able to still obtain the necessities that we will need, help slow the spread of the virus (if people listen to the CDC), and help our healthcare providers and keep the healthcare system away from insane limits.
I understand and agree with that to a point. But people on bottom (the ones that work and are not on gubmint checks) are already on the verge of getting ruined by this..what is that going to cost in terms of mental stability going forward?

For how long is my point.

Say it again for the people in the back!

I'm personal freedom and liberties to the core. But there comes a time that you have to take one for the team. Do you think the 10 million drafted for WW2 all wanted to do it? Hell no! It violated their personal freedom. But it was deemed necessary. I just can't wrap my head around how people don't get this.

YOU CAN MAKE OTHER PEOPLE SICK BEFORE YOU KNOW YOU'RE INFECTED!!!!

PEOPLE WITH NO SYMPTOMS CAN MAKE YOU SICK BEFORE THEY KNOW THEY ARE INFECTED!!!

YOU CAN UNKNOWINGLY PASS IT ALONG TO SOMEONE WHO IS NOT HEALTHY ENOUGH TO SURVIVE IT!!!
YOU ARE GOING TO GET THIS AND PASS IT ALONG REGARDLESS!!!!!!
