Off topic but most of the thread is so quick question: Does anyone else find it odd, in the middle of a global pandemic we are sending two war ships off the coast of Venezuela disguised as a determent for drug smuggling? I normally don't wear a tinfoil hat but something about this doesn't pass the sniff test IMO.
The war to stop entry of drugs into our country...failing since day 1.

Maybe we should really be asking ourselves why we are the world's largest purchaser of these items. Why do so few receive treatment instead of a jail cell? Why are underserved communities the ones that are plagued by drugs the worst?

I’m still working. When our business (wedding photography) started failing I went and got a job at Whole Foods. We’re down about $10k a month in income with the Airbnb losses and business income losses. I meet with a realtor today to put our house on the market. I’m hoping to clear a good bit and possibly move back to tennessee with the family.
Looking for a job right now is not fun, I’ll tell you that. Even with 10 years of very successful business ownership and some success in the workforce- it doesn’t seem to fit into the common employment profile. Not a whole lot of fun.

If you have an accountant or even check yourself, but you need to look into the relief package. There are many people that are being offered relief, including “gig” employees or independent contractors, which I don’t believe were included in previous relief packages. There are certain guidelines that may allow you to not even pay it back. I would seriously check it out because I think it is designed for people/business like you.

Second this. There is meaningful help for small business and individuals. I was just signing the application for my company today, and was surprised that the help is real.

What do you define as underserved communities?

From your posts you seem like a pretty smart person. Yet you seem to have a hard time reading what others are posting, or maybe you just ignore it if it doesn't agree with that you're saying and use your "assumptions" to jump to the worst conclusions.

Let me try this again. NEITHER MYSELF, NOR ANYONE ELSE I'VE READ ON HERE, SAY THIS SHOULD BE IGNORED. But it seems you just can't handle it if we aren't taking it all as apocalyptically as you would like us too and aren't getting more and more fearful with every big number we see from certain models, and are instead able to see this from all perspectives, and are able to see the less scary models and less scary possibilities as well.

Those models you're so enamored with are only as good as the assumptions they're based on. And those aren't my words, they're Dr Fauci's words. I would think he would be one you would trust since he loves numbers too. And the explanations related to those models use the word "could", not "would". Again, not my words. "Could", meaning possibility, maybe even probability. But not "would", meaning fact.

“Would” means that someone can predict the future. Let me know who that might be.

I can tell you firsthand that if some of these measures hadn’t been in place 2 weeks ago, my “place of business” could have been effected big time because hundreds of people go in and out of courtrooms and elevators on various levels. These social distancing requirements have absolutely prevented more serious issues.

Least motivated, least educated and most dependent on others! If you disagree, I promise I have worked in this so called “underserved areas” as a first responder for 20 years. They make up the minority of the city’s population, but are the majority of 911 calls! I am off my soap box, sorry to those I offended.

?? And he said so.

He said, “Transmission of the virus is almost exclusively from your hands to your face.” Pretty much every other article I've read says the virus is spread primarily by inhaling droplets from coughs, sneezes, or even just breath. I feel like his advice could mislead people or give them a false sense of security. That's all.

My purpose has never been to scare or sensationalize, only to inform and encourage the right level of response. The first video explains the graph that Dr. Brilliant is referencing in his tweet. I found it interesting, but it may be too nerdy for many.

Them considering china as a success is all I need to see. Fake news. Fear porn

The very poor areas of rural America need help mainly with medical resources; i.e. doctors, PA's, hospitals and clinics. As for inner cities, billions upon billions of dollars have been invested in most of them over the years but a vast majority of these people only want to continue to stick their hand out for more and more. I am convinced a lot of the problem is the people's mindset. When you see generation after generation of them continuing to repeat the same lifestyle while getting all these free handouts, it just compounds the problem of crime, drug activity, etc. And making large urban cities safe havens for illegals just adds to this problem!! And trust me, I have went into many very poor urban areas over the years delivering food baskets, blankets, etc and when you walk up to a front door carrying 100 lbs of stuff in your arms and there is two 250 lb plus male arseholes sitting on the couch surrounded by 30 beer cans and too darn lazy to lift a finger to open the door, much less relieve you of the boxes and then you introduce yourself and ask where they want the boxes and tell you to just sit them in the kitchen. And when you get back to the door to exit, you don't even hear a "thank you" or a "we appreciate it" you ask yourself why you even bother to help those less fortunate. I've done it over and over for years. It's a mindset and attitude that need MAJOR ADJUSTMENT!

A chart that doesn’t take into account the population or how many test are being provided by each country proves nothing and makes the DR look like a DA.

Did you watch the explanation? No chart shows every relevant piece of information. That's why people use all kinds of different charts and plots to inform their opinions. And I don't think anyone would blame someone for being skeptical of China's numbers, but that's just one plot.

He even has an entire section of the video going over the limitations of this graph. In fact, it's a significant portion of the video.

Maybe watch the video before you criticize it.

Nah, Jeff.

To be clear, that wasn't a response to you. It was talking about the article.

I've seen this notion that the people who are dying would have died "soon" anyway. It's not necessarily untrue for many cases, but it sure isn't true for all cases. If you're talking about a terminally ill cancer patient, that's one thing. But some of these folks are pretty young and without known preexisting conditions.

It just feels weird to even talk in that context. Like, a few months for cancer patient isn't a big deal.
Yep, we’re good

Rural areas need much help too. The drug crisis in many parts have hit as bad, if not worst, than other areas. The war on drugs, as currently conceived, helps none of them and often hurts those communities.

Maybe he should put his PhD to work and create a chart that takes into account the population and number of test being performed.

Inadequate for someone with a PhD beside their name.

Our outrage society has no time to actually watch/read content.

But honestly I am more concernerd with our own numbers right now. The whole China thing is just a diversion. I even saw one WH official say maybe we weren't prepared because China was lowballing...even as we saw SK, Italy, etc happen.

Honestly, it's all behind us and the immediate future is A1 concern. Focus needs to be on how to move forward, not finding scapegoats. We will have plenty of time years from now to dissect the rest and point fingers.
