I can't afford anything at Lil Nicky's High Priced Car Emporium. I have 3 teenage daughters. I am thinking of having to scale back my VN subscription if that tells you where I am at.
However, my middle daughter is looking at majoring in psychology (clinical) and UTK offers through PHd in that field so she is highly considering UTK. Praying that we find the best fit for her and that it involves Knoxville.
Thank you for the advice. I will pass it along for sure. This child is incredible, but I know that the world is often as much about who you know as it is about what you know. Thanks again.Clinical Psych is harder to get into than med school. No matter where she winds up for ugrad, I can't emphasize enough that she needs to make as many connections as she can. She needs to know her professors, GTAs, etc. and let them know early what her plans are for grad school. And don't limit connections to whatever school she's at.... As a ugrad attend events, talk to visiting profs and guest speakers, email profs doing work you're interested in pursuing even if you have no interest in going to wherever they're at. Connections are 100 percent crucial.
If she can find a way to publish anything in the field as a ugrad - even a book or article review - (and that's a tall order but still...) do it.
now that is one of the issues I have with modern upper bourgeois society. Have's, have nots. Buddy buddy dynamics, a tail as old as thyme. Deals made on the green versus merits of body of work.Thank you for the advice. I will pass it along for sure. Old co-worker of mine used to say the worst thing about nepotism is that it usually works. Compared to people hired solely for what they put on their CV, give me the nepo hire all day long lolnow that is one of the issues I have with modern upper bourgeois society. Have's, have nots. Buddy buddy dynamics, a tail as old as thyme. Deals made on the green versus merits of body of work.
Spoken like a true introvert.

Yeah, I mean that is the trope. I don't think the numbers would support the idea that it is a bad strategy though. Businesses fail under the second leader on a routine basis, no matter how that second leader is chosen. My theory would be that nepotism is anti-mericratic, and that feeling of unfairness creates observation bias where everyone notices when the nepo hires fail. But, so many stories about the incompetent kid taking over for the parents and destroying the company.
