We had a lot of holes to fill and CBJ & Staff has done an excellent job filling them.

List based on priority.

1. RB
2. DL
3. Secondary
4 LB
5. Receiver Corps + TE
6. OL
7. Specialist
8. QB

Knowing what we have committed bounced against this list the staff has done an excellent job recruiting.

Others thoughts. It woul be easy to change out DL and RB but what do you think when looking at this list.

Someone who has access and time, please take that list and see where our class is ranked by each position. For example I know our RB class would be top 5 at least.

I have seen that our LB class is 4th in the nation right now.
Also the secondary class is 3rd in the nation.

Both of these are based off of threads people have started in the recruiting forum.

I think it is funny when people mention that as a recruiting class we are ????? ####...

Let's imagine that we have the 5th best recruiting class in the nation. Well, on the surface that sounds good, but if #1 is Alabama, # 2 is Florida, #3 is UGA and # 4 is Missouri, then it does us little good.

That means that we are the 5th best in our conference in recruiting for that season and the 1st - 4th best are our competition.

Except for the fact that the qualitative difference between the top 5, or really even the top 10 classes, is negligible. The big difference will be seen in how those recruits meet the needs of their respective systems, and how well they are coached.

Just goes to show you how competitive the SEC is! But if you look at our class currently, and look at what our ranking was in the SEC last year, 5th would be a dramatic improvement. I think we are actually 3rd in the SEC according to rivals. I am okay with that.

Overall ratings I agree, but if you are filling team weaknesses with quality recruits then it serves the purpose. If I sign two 5 * qBs it boasts the overall ranking but does it really meet the needs. We signed Manning and Stewart in the same class both were programmed to.RS? Until the first game. UCLA.

Also our class as committed today will have I believe the greasiest impact on this program immediately versus the schools above us. We all agree that this inbound class will see the field sooner than any other signing class we have ever had in Vol history.

This is just me mind you - but coming off the Dooley average class ranking of 24th or 35th depending upon the year, and coming off 3 losing seasons in a row,

recruiting on a par with the Alabama, Florida State, etc. is a pretty big deal. Last I checked we were 1st in the Eastern half of our conference in recruiting as well.

I think Rudy is the guy that wins the lottery and says " yeah, but I only won 350 million - I was really hoping for 500 million and there are taxes I am going to have to pay and my relatives are going to be bugging me,
and I will have to travel and take more vacations."

. . . the qualitative difference between the top 5, or really even the top 10 classes, is negligible. . . .

As well as subjective.

Recruitment rankings are pretty arbitrary. It's a concept pulled out of thin air to add interest to CFB in the off-season and make money.

Guys' "stars" actually change long after they've played their last down of HS football simply because a particular team starts or stops recruiting them.

Recruiting is essential to the football program, but it's one piece of the puzzle.

On points 1,3,4,5,6, & 7, counting PWOs, we are as set as we can be this cycle. On 2 & 8, we'll see how it ends. There is one guy visiting this weekend that can take care of 2, and a hail mary long shot at the 8. Both last names start with a S.

As far as need, positions were obvious, DL RB et.. but speed was needed in the worst way and CBJ has addressed that!

3) qb

Fyp

We need a qb. Taller, stronger, faster, meaner. Period.
