recording music through computer

anyone know the name of the program that allows you to record any music that is played through your computer?

I've heard about them, but i don't know who makes them or the name of the program.

can anyone help?

You generally do not want to use this type of software if quality is a concern. What type of audio are you trying to capture?

Audacity is free

recordings are as good as the source material. However, I did learn that if you change volume using your control panel during a recording, it will show up in playback. Only use your speaker's volume knob.
