Wanted to get the VOLNATIONS opinion on the total number of wins the Basketball team will have this year. My expectations are high. I believe they can compete and win against any team in the country

Maymon changes this, does he come back December, January, not at all?

I said weeks ago 23-7 iirc, I'll probably go to 21-9 or 22-8....will finish top 4 in sec, get a bye for sec tourney, a be a 7 seed or better for the NCAA....I expect atleast one NCAA win, but think well make the sweet 16.

Here's the schedule (30 overall, 18 SEC):

11/05/12 vs. Victory University (Exhibition)
11/09/12 vs. Kennesaw State

Puerto Rico Tip-Off
11/15/12 vs. UNC Asheville
11/16/12 vs. Akron or Oklahoma State
11/18/12 TBD

11/26/12 vs. Oakland

SEC/Big East Challenge
11/30/12 at Georgetown

12/05/12 at Virginia
12/13/12 vs. Wichita State
12/18/12 vs. Presbyterian
12/21/12 vs. Western Carolina
12/29/12 vs. Xavier
01/04/13 vs. Memphis
01/09/13 vs. Ole Miss
01/12/13 at Alabama
01/15/13 at Kentucky
01/19/13 vs. Mississippi State
01/24/13 at Ole Miss
01/26/13 vs. Alabama
01/29/13 vs. Vanderbilt
02/02/13 at Arkansas
02/06/13 vs. Georgia
02/10/13 at South Carolina
02/13/13 at Vanderbilt
02/16/13 vs. Kentucky
02/19/13 vs. LSU
02/23/13 at Texas A&M
02/26/13 vs. Florida
03/02/13 at Georgia
03/06/13 at Auburn
03/09/13 vs. Missouri

Based on a quick glance, I think they will win the Puerto Rico tournament and finish around 3rd or 4th in the SEC (there are no divisions anymore).

I'm guessing something like 9-3 non-conference (losing Geo, Va or XU, Mem) then around 14-4 conference, which would mean 23-7 is my overall guess.

Anyone else think it's odd that 4 of the first 6 SEC games are against Bama & Ole Miss? Of course that's better than Kentucky and Missouri, but it's still odd. I assume it's the crazy adjustment to the new scheduling with removal of divisions and inserting new SEC members.

I am very proud of Coach Martin. He has surprised me on and off the court, and he reps our university as well as we could ask.

Besides Kenturkey, who are the better teams in the SEC this year?

Missouri and Florida are both pretty good teams. They will be a handful for the Vols. I wouldn't sleep on Alabama. Plus, Vanderbilt is always goot to go.

I think given improvement on the perimeter and the timetable on the Maymon injury, we could be beat any of them, but those teams are all solid.

Looks like Misery(mizzou) and A+M were excellent B Ball additions to the SEC. More tourney teams

Vandy's not gonna be goot to go this season.

Yes. Outside of their homecourt advantage, Vandy will be an afterthought in the SEC this year. They lost way too much and didn't bring in enough to curb that. Subject to change barring some marked improvement and unexpected contribution from newcomers.*

Martin appears to be an excellent hire and with his 2nd season coming they'll play better than most outsiders think and not win as many Vol fans think. I'm going with 20 wins.

Our worst problem last season was guard play.
Those of us predicting 22-23 are believing reports that our guards will be much better this season.
With Stokes getting the double team all season, they should be getting a lot of open looks.
Teams that don't double Stokes could be watching him dunk 15 shots a night on them.

One thing I noticed, and maybe it's been talked about before, is UT only has one conference game with only a 2 day turn around. Last year they had a couple and they can be back breakers. I think it could be the difference in 1 or 2 wins over the conference schedule.

Much better scheduling this season.

Honestly it's a great schedule...some good OOC games, but teams we can beat, no rim jobs on the SEC scheduling, and good draws for our home/away opponents...

If we play well 23-25 wins is very possible.
