I thought it interesting to look at the SEC teams drafts and compare to their season records. I understand it's not apples to apples because of youth on some rosters and experience on others but it still shows talent on the winners.
Alabama had 10 players drafted and 4 in the 1st rd. Played for Nat'l Champ. Fl had 8 drafted and one in the 1st rd. Played in SEC Champ. LSU had 8 total and 3 in first rd. Ole Miss had 4 and one 1st rounder. Ga only had 1 player drafted which was noticeable to me, while Vandy had 2 draftees.
Other notables are Texas with 1 draftee, Oh St had 7 drafted but 3 of those were 1st rd. Clemson had 6 drafted and 2 in the first.

If you have this much talent on a team but lose to South Carolina and Vanderbilt; I say that's more of a negative reflection on the staff than it is the team.

It is pretty inexcusable to have 6 players drafted and still struggle so badly.

Could have had 8 players drafted legitimately......

I said it after the first round, but it bears repeating:

LSU had Fournette, Adams, and White on the same team for three straight years. The best that they did in that span was finish 3rd in the West.

Clemson had 6 drafted.....went 14-1 and won the national title. We had 6 drafted....went 9-4 and won the Music City Bowl. Ugh.

I see no correlation other than Alabama and win totals. They seem consistent on both.
Everyone else is all over the board between the 2 totals.

Clemson maybe.
But I'm not going overboard until I see this season without Watson. I believe there's proof Dabo is better than Chizik but I've seen the athletic superstar QB play out before.
Curious to see if Clemson makes the big game again. And if so, do they win.

13 games X 6 players= 78 total games but there where 3 that missed a lot of games due to injuries. The whole Hurd situation messed up the chemistry of a top talent team. All this said we still should have beat USCe. Just so happens Dobbs has his worst game at UT that day and Fils Aimes has to go in for Hurd accidentally knocks ball out Dobbs hands for fumble. Also even with all this we should have beat Vandy. The whole chemistry just seemed to unfold with the Hurd deal until they had some time off for Bowl and reset. We have now reset with a bunch of coaching changes. We will know early if it is a go or no go.

The last time UT had this many players drafted which also included a QB was 2010 from the 2009 team that was coached by Lane Kiffin. The Vols finished 7-6 including a bowl loss. Dan Williams and Eric Berry were on that team. I know no one like losing to Vandy or SC but 2010 team wasted more talent than the 2016 team.

This is a gee whiz kind of interesting thing to think about, but it really doesn't mean a whole lot.

Kiffin would have done well at UT in long haul. That team actually played well under him as it was vastly underachieving under Fulmer. He turned Crompton into a reputable QB....they nearly upset Bama at Bama (actually should have won)

Do any of you honestly believe Hurd had that much impact or is just a convenient excuse?

Was Hurd a distraction in the 1st half of the UF and not the 2nd half?

Was Hurd responsible for 7 turnovers against A&M?

Was Hurd playing D when UT pulled a Sunseri down the stretch?

I agree, something was wrong with Hurd and the coaches. But if he hated UT as much as many of you think he could have dropped the TD against UF, gotten tackled on the TD vs UGA, etc.

Agree on Crompton.

UT almost upset Bama in 2015 also, they're still not giving awards for almost.

There is absolutely no guarantee that Kiffin would or wouldn't have done well. Hate to question the leader of the mighty owls but he does have a head coaching record. Nothing about that record guarantees success.

I agree with most of this post but this part. Jalen wouldn't have ever done those things because Jalen loves Jalen more than he hates UT.

That team with 2 first round picks could have easily won 9 or 10 games. Losing to UCLA in Neyland Stadium was all on Kiffin. I can't ever recall a UT team wasting so much talent.

Hurd has become the blanket excuse for losing. The reality is, Hurd was Hurd all three years. He was never a popular guy, had an attitude, kept to himself and wasn't a team leader. The players were used to Hurd and generally ignored or shrugged off his behavior.

The team had issues, but Hurd wasn't the catalyst. Things were falling apart while he was there, and things continued falling apart after he left.

They say time heals all things. It apparently also helps you forget certain realities too. Have you forgotten that team had TWO (2) walk-on offensive linemen playing or starting? This was mainly the results of Fulmer's receruiting fall off. We played in the SEC, during what was probably it's peak of dominance.

We were not some kind of stacked championship team that got undercoached and didn't come close to fulfilling it's destiny. Go rewatch Ole Miss, UCLA, or VT if you need a refresher.

Agree on all points. Well stated.

The West has become brutal. People here don't want to admit it, but the GULF between East and West has become massive.
