Recent hires by schools who had to turn their program around:

1) Alabama-paid big money for Saban
2) Arkansas-paid big money for Petrino
3) South Carolina- paid big money for SOS
4) LSU- hired Saban away from Mich St and he didnt come cheap
5) Florida- paid big money for Meyer, paid good money for Muschamp considering he was an assistant off a losing team at TX
6) Auburn-paid low dollar for Chuzik, gave big raise after NC, probably wished they didnt
7) uga- hired hot shot OC Richt
8) Vandy-hired hot shot Franklin, probably gonna lose him after this year

Bottom line is unless you want to cheat like Auburn, you'd best roll your money up and hire a successful coach with money IF you want to turn this thing around...

I think after this season everyone sees that Franklin is not a miracle worker and he will forever be at Vanderbilt

We're going to draw conclusions from this data set which ignores MSU's hire of Mullen? What did Florida pay for Zook? What did SC pay for Lou Holtz? Seems like a pretty short sighted list to me.

Or how about he just does decently, someone else out of the conference hires him, and we never have to hear or speak of him ever again?

If Vandy makes a bowl game for the second year in a row, I don't know how that's anything short of miraculous.

I would think most people including inside the SEC would think that if you take Vandy to a bowl game two years in a row you would be doing a great job.

He is a bad coach period. I mean DD and company have made some dumb choices, but this guy and his staff take cake on them

People don't realize how much money is actually in college. We have just begun to see the high price tag for coaches. Just look how much money the NFL pays players and think

College football stadiums are bigger

More college games are on tv

Players aren't paid anything but scholarship and board.

DD needed overtime to beat them in Knoxville. You might want to slow your roll a bit.

Who died and made you king of the castle? I think that DD and DBag Franklin need to learn a few things about coaching. It's my opinion so, nope not gonna slow my roll

don't forget about the one handed catch by Da'Rick on 4th and goal either. Dooley was really close to losing that game. That said, I still think Franklin is overrated.

Dooley has been close to losing a lot of games and has lost them. My point is not DD in this thread, my point is go back watch the games that Franklin has coached, he makes piss poor choices all the time and has cost them a few possible wins over top teams. Has he turned the program around? Its yet to be seen, he has made it change for the right direction, but he is good at making the wrong choices, look at last weeks game.

BTW I heard that Franklin is making more than Dooley. Franklins compensation is estimated to be over 3 mil. Of course Vanderbilt doesn't disclose because it is a private school. But I don't recall Vanderbilt paying better than UT before.

Really...guess you dont watch football because after watching both teams for 1 quarter i can tell you who is better coached and isnt the team wearing orange.

Tennessee has twice the athletes as Vandy.

We're going to draw conclusions from this data set which ignores MSU's hire of Mullen? What did Florida pay for Zook? What did SC pay for Lou Holtz? Seems like a pretty short sighted list to me.

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Lou Holtz took over South Carolina's struggling football program today after marathon, last-minute negotiations to complete his $600,000-a-year coaching deal.
About 5,000 fans cheered Holtz as the former Notre Dame coach walked to the center of Williams-Brice Stadium this afternoon. "Ladies and gentlemen, I'm here because I want to be here," the former Notre Dame coach said.
"When I left the University of Notre Dame, I honestly felt I would never coach again. My heart is now here at the University of South Carolina. My effort and dedication is to you."
The crowd burst into cheers again when Holtz told them, "Our goal is to win the national championship."
South Carolina's 1-10 record this season was its worst in 106 years, and Brad Scott was fired as coach on Nov. 23.
He will be paid a $150,000 base salary. With broadcast revenues, endorsements and other payments, the five-year deal is worth a total of about $600,000 annually, the school said.

As also pointed out, Franklin's 2013 recruiting class is ranked ahead of Tennessee's. During Franklin's 1 1/2 yr tenure at VU, they've won 3 SEC games (Auburn, Mizzou, & KY). During the same time span, Dooley & Co have won a grand total of 1 SEC game - Vandy.

I never thought I'd see the day when a Vandy fan could point east and say, We're more successful than Tennessee. But that day has arrived.
