I was thinking about how Tennessee has had quite a few QB’s recently that probably could not have played anywhere else in the SEC other than for UT
We’ve had some busts at QB that’s for sure

Just think what a Mobil accurate QB could do for Pruitt’s and the Vols future

I just think the other two quarterbacks have to have better instincts by default. It appears JG grew up in a wasteland of football talent called New Jersey where the competition was weak, and anyone with a strong arm looked completely amazing.

He is neither mobile, nor accurate.

The reality is he was vastly OVERRATED coming out of high school, has no natural football or leadership instincts ( note his pouting early in his career and his standing straight up on a quarterback sneak ) and since he has been here, he has a combination of a slow, long delivery and slow recognition - which when combined kills timing with wideouts on most pass plays. It is who he is. His only successes have largely been on long passes in single coverage where the receiver outbattles the DB.

Riddle me this batman - when was the last time that you saw another quarterback stand up straight and lean into the pile on a qb sneak. It is counterintuitive.

Most of what Pruitt says makes sense to me, but he does seem to contradict himself with some regularity. Lately he has said that JG is obviously the best QB on the team and practices really well. On the other hand, Pruitt has said a couple of times that some guys practice one way, but when they're in a real game, they play a different way. That said, how do we know who the best QB is if neither Shrout not Maurer have taken a snap in a real game?

I still do not believe JT or Maur could be any worse than JG.

You literally couldn’t even call pass plays in the 4th quarter of the BYU game. How can anyone be worse than a QB who isn’t good enough to call pass plays with? Lol.
Right then still start the QB who can't pass lmao. 🤦 can't wait to watch the wheels fall off

JG is the best QB we have or he would’ve already been benched. Just let him be. He could be better, but he also could be worse.

I have said this since he signed. The fact is he played in the lowest division of football, at a private school in New Jersey. This in no way compares to any level of, for instance, Georgia High School Football, and even 5A Tennessee football. The level of talent and athlete is vastly different. We obviously haven’t helped him much with OC turnover. I think our major competition for him was Rutgers, though Ohio State made some overtures (I think to keep Jones from landing him).

I hate it for him, because you could almost see it coming. You hate to see a kid get his dreams crushed, and be part of it. But truthfully, he chose poorly coming to the SEC.

don't really disagree. i thought he'd be better. he hasn't been. some of it, like you said, not his fault. situation being what it's been, he's not exactly been set up for success.

but he should be further along at this point if he was going to be "more".

maybe he'll get it as the season goes along? hope so.

Third season...same problems. His biggest problem now is that he doesn’t have an O-line that will get blamed for it.

What’s this have to do with the other quarterbacks? I’m not saying he is drew brees or Peyton. He is the best we have on our roster, just have to deal with it.

yep. and i was in the camp that wanted to see him play with an offense that wasn't a complete albatross for a QB. i don't think that's the case this year.........and sadly, he's just the same.......

I wonder how some of those might have performed for better teams. The Vols have been pretty crappy during that time and it wasn't all due to quarterback play. Peterman at Pitt did well as did Ferguson at Memphis. Dormany at Houston, an example in the other direction.

Screw that man. Any other program and he is sitting on the bench no matter what.
ok. well he's not anywhere else. he's here. and he's the best option. like i said, that doesn't mean he's great.

just means we still got a ways to go in the QB room.

The point is, nobody knows that. Even Pruitts own words about some guys practicing well and some guys playing well leave it in doubt.

We are in the “easy” stretch of the season . Can you think of another year when a backup hasn’t been trotted out during the first three games to get some reps?
