Everyone says we are rebuilding once again, but is this truly a rebuild or just an upgrade? Butch had good recruiting classes during his tenure, but was just too incompetent to win consistently with them. So, do you think Pruitt can win immediately with the talent pool he will be handed, or will it take a year, or possibly more? This is, of course, assuming that he lives up to seemingly high expectations.

It will take a few years for sure. Patience will be critical...this recruiting class will be even more critical. If he can rescue this class then he should be able to right the ship sooner.

Yes, sadly we've lost too many already and we might lose more.

This is definately a total rebuild situation for us unfortunately.

Good thing is that Pruitt is a outstanding recruiter and if he can hire some good coaches that are also excellent recruiters then we'll rebuild faster.

VFL...GBO!!!

How long is too long for “rebuilding”

Is a 9 win season in 2018 asking too much? I mean he is inheriting some really good playmakers on the offensive side.......kelly, chandler, callaway to name a few. Defense has its upside too with TKj and kirkland hopefully returning at full strength next year. Those few can be difference makers, paired with decent play elsewhere on the field, I don't think a successful 2018 campaign is out of the question. Just to reiterate, this is assuming that Pruitt is what he is billed to be and can get the right supporting staff.

Disclaimer: I would have the same train of thought had it been any other hire.

It's way too much to ask.

Total rebuild will be required to toughen up the players and get the kind of talent it takes to win in the SEC.

Going 0-8 in the SEC shows where the Vols are talent wise, compared to the other SEC schools, unfortunately

2-3 years minimum to upgrade talent at Tennessee:popcorn:

the problem with the next year, maybe two, is still depth. there's talent on this roster. but we're still just not deep enough.

that said, i don't think it's unfair to think or expect that we can/should be capable of actually winning game, or two, that we maybe shouldn't be expected to win.

the schedule next season is tough. i think if we can get 7/8 wins next year, and at least 1 of the Bama/Aub/GA/FL games, it won't be considered anything other than a success.

so i don't think ti's a total rebuild like it was after Dooley, i do think we still have serious depth issues. we have a core at OL. we have a qb. we have skill position players and RB's. defensively, still short at LB. DL still thin, and DB we have #'s, but still not sure about the total quality. shamburger looks legit, and safety should be set. past that...?

so we'll see.

Those classes were highly rated because of highly rated players who are all gone. Preston Williams gone. Jauan Jennings gone. Boulware gone. Jack Jones gone.

All of those guys should be dominate seniors for us. The senior class is missing about 10 players. The other classes are decent though

agreed. we are definitely in better shape now than post Dooley but we do lack depth and something to consider is that the East has been weak and it now seems like it might be in an upward trend.

A true rebuild. A 5 win season in 2018 is more realistic.

Most of the players at UT are soft and will need to move on, so the Vols can rebuild with better talent:popcorn:

Don't think it's going to be a massive leap, but also if Pruitt good, I think we'll come on faster.

Should call us “Rebuild U”

Hopefully Pruitt can break the vicious cycle that has started.

I think it shows the incompetence of the coaching staff. With decent playcalling at crucial times, we win the UF, SC, and UK games, and are sitting at 7-5. In order to be successful, your leadership has to put you in a position to win. Butch and co. never did that.

I think the biggest challenge Pruitt will have is changing these players mindsets. They're soft like marshmallows' physically and mentally. The Butch affect.

I think they need to win 7 next year. If you want to keep Neyland full, that's the baseline. I think point differential is where we need to pay attention though. Being competitive consistently is a better performance indicator that w/l right now

This team is full of talent, can Coach Pruitt teach and get them ready by September? no one knows, however, he will be busting his hump to get this team ready to compete, and who knows? they might be pretty decent..........or not. Let's just come together and support this coaching staff and team and act like Fans and not fanatics.

Welcome to Volnation Coach Pruitt!
