I do not think posters on here understand scheme. When you have players in position to make a play in the backfield and the player either misses the tackle or takes a bad angle that is not on the coach. He has schemed the player into position to make a play and the player just did not make it. I think if you want to say players are not being coached to take proper tackling angles that is fair but to blame the scheme is not. I have said all season that we are in position to make the plays and just are not making them.

Another good example was on the Dobbs int there was a player wide open in the flat and he choice to throw down field into double coverage that is on him not the coach.

I agree with some of that but if you watched the MO d line, they were stunting every play while ours straight bull rush. They brought blitzes while I never saw a blitz from our secondary (could have missed some). The bust in the secondary is reoccurring, that's on the coaches. The penalties, that's a regression. Other teams we've played seem like much more polished teams. Even the teams we've beat.

I agree with the busts but they are minimal compared to last seasons.

I am really concerned about the tackling angles we have been taking bad angles from game one. I have to believe they are working on it in practice and it is not getting better. I know depth is an issue but if a player is not taking coaching and executing in the game put him on the bench and put in a player who wants to learn and get better.

Edit: and leaving the same players in that make the same mistakes week after week is on the coaches. I have yet to see Williams or Jones in the defensive backfield and I have to think they would help.

Why don't people understand pursuit angles are a function of speed, agility and athleticism? We need better players. And apparently better fans. Football knowledge is low on this board. Complaining is high. And so am I :) .

So changing coaching staffs every 2-3 years is a great way to have roster full of guys that don't match what the coach needs. That's how you remain a losing program.

No and I hope I did not come across that way. I think no matter what happens Jones needs at a minimum of 5 years to create some kind of stability in the program.

He'll get 4 at minimum. He'll have to show something by the later part of year 3 or the rumbling will start. This is the landscape in today's college football. No one gets 5 years to waller around in mediocrity anymore. It has to get better and steadily better or he'll be shown the door as well.

In hindsight Dooley got one too many years. The writing was on the wall for everyone to see after the KY debacle. We just chose to ignore it.

When you look at the talent that's being brought in and how they perform, that is the proof you need that we have the right guy. We just have to let him get rid of some if the dead weight.

Most of the dead weight we need to get rid of is some of the fans.

I agree and was going to say 4 but did not want to get slammed. :)

I have always felt after the first 3 years new coaches should be evaluated. If each season shows no sign of getting better then the coach should be let go, no matter what. 3 years is a perfect timetable, if he can't do it there's another coach who can. We see it year in and year out at other programs.

Still for the life of me can't understand why our oline performs this bad. There is no reasonable explanation why 5 dudes, who were touted as premier players their whole career, suck this bad. I'm tired of tiny. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't be so critical of the line, he just puts them on center stage for everyone to bash when things go wrong.
Our OL is talented, but they don't fit the system. We need athletic guys with a mean streak and a high motor. We have behemoth space eaters for the most part.

Should have never been hired in the first place. Allowing Mike Hamilton to make another hire was stupid..

I think it is important to remember we are playing the 3rd toughest schedule in the nation.

I thought we could be a 7-5 team at the start of the season but MO and Auburn both are way better than predicted.

We are the first team since 1993 to play 7 games Against
ranked opponents. Brutal schedule to say the least.
