Injuries were without question the major killer for team 120. It sucked but it happened.
Tell me how you would feel about our chances playing a team in the following scenario.
Players out for their team.
3 starting Dlinemen
2 starting LB and team Capt.
Best DB and Team Capt
Makeshift Oline
Best Punt returner
Best Kickoff returner in nation.

How would you like our chances of beating a team with these losses?

I would say there is no way we could beat a 9-3 Nebraska team. That is just to much to overcome.
Edit blue font so people don't freak out

Injuries affected the TAM game. Maybe the competitive nature of the Bama game (not the outcome).

Injuries should not have affected the SCAR game or the Vandy game. We should have had enough depth to beat those two with second and third string. Especially SCAR with a week off and we actually got guys back that week.

Sorry, those 2 losses were inexcusable.

How about this: the day before the Vandy game, how many posters expected a loss? We were super-injured, after all.

While the injury problem was very apparent, it also highlighted the problems with the S&C program and staff and the unpreparedness of the backups that were forced into action. Hopefully more attention will be paid to the above issues in the spring and summer.

Same with South Carolina.

Before the game: "We're injured, but we're still better than this crappy team."

After the game: "Guys we never had a chance"

Many of the injuries had nothing to do with S&C. When 300 LB linemen roll your leg it will get injured.

Did you put money on Vandy because you "liked their chances" against such an injured team?

That'd be really funny. The truth will set you free

Interesting way to phrase the question.

I would like our chances.

Time to move on Vols. It's 2017 and Ga Tech is next on the list to take a beat down from the Vols.

Go Vols 2017!

Classic post from you. Thanks.

I see reality will evade you in 17 as well.

Come on Reader even though UT was down losses to SC and Vandy shouldn't have happened. I blame the drama surrounding the program and Jones trying too hard to be a players coach. This season was lost in the off-season, letting senior players wear green non contact jerseys, firing one of the best strength coaches because he was too hard on these guys. This team was undisciplined, soft and unprepared.

Not convinced the SC coaching was too bad. The team was in good 4th qtr shape all season. I did hear there were some training discipline concerns... such as working out when you feel like it. Not sure what needs to be fixed there... ideas?

Still should've beaten Vandy and USC. Nice try.

Why can't we forget about the past and start getting ready for next season . Last season's gone time to move on with our lives !

Another reality of 2016 was that our most talented team since 2001 almost lost to a Sun Belt team, when none of the issues the OP cited existed.

And rather than that be a wake up call we continued to start nearly ever game looking flat and ill-prepared.

Bottom line, CBJ crapped the bed this year but he's done a good enough job to get a free pass or two.

There's definitely cause for concerns with his coaching... over the past 30 years, the greats show greatness by year 4 - especially when they have the tradition and resources of a Tennessee.
