Realistically, how bad did this hurt our recruiting class?

Recruits are much more rational than the nuts on this board. They'll actually have the ability to see that we've got 3rd stringers and guys who have no business being on the field playing against NFL-level talent. As fans, we expect our team to beat Bama. Recruits don't.

UGA losing to Vandy hurts them more than losing to Bama hurts us.

It may hurt UGA a little but it probably helps Vandy, which may hurt us more. Supposedly, we're coming up on a big in-state year for 2018 and we don't need Mason picking any cherries off our plate.

I'm confused. We go 6-6 or 7-5 and we pull in a top 5 class. And now that Tennessee is a top 15 team and 5-2 and with an excellent chance to be 10-2 we're worried about dropping in recruiting. Using this logic we ought to be just calling Georgia's players because who would want to go to a school that got whacked by Mississippi, lost to Vanderbilt at home, and almost lost at home to Missouri and Nicholls State.

I feel you. UGA has the luxury of bleeding off some top in-state talent and still stocking the cupboard due to the amount of top prospects their state produces.

The biggest recruiting weekend of the year and the stadium was empty by the 4th quarter. Our team was literally run over. Embarrassing.

What would a recruit have seen that makes them want to play for Butch?

I think recruits are smarter than many of the negative poster realize. They realize that almost half the starter are injured and did not play. They see the opportunity to come in and play early. They see the support the of the fan base and the progress that this team has made post Dooley. Many would rather be playing rather than sitting on the bench waiting until their sr. year before playing. They know that even Alabama has not played 4 straight weeks on the CBS Game of the week. If a recruit doesn't want to play football because of his desire to play the game against other very good players, then we don't want or need them to play for us. The playing field will be leveled and we will be better each year. We have competed well with out quality depth for the last two years. It showed during the last two games and we almost one of them. Don't give up on recruiting and don't let the negative reactions of certain posters deter your attitude about what is being build at Tennessee. Those with strong minds can see the progress and look forward to the future. Those with weak minds let the negatives control their attitude and thoughts.

One loss won't mean much although a big win certainly makes the visit a lot more memorable. Kids focus on the coaching staff with the head and position coaches being chief among them. They also place a lot of emphasis on the fit with the other players. That's big. Parents want to feel their son is going to be looked after and developed both on and off the field. Depending on the player and parents, academics are also high on the list. Playing time and how the kid will fit into and be used in the system also is a factor. Kids look more down the road to "their time" and the look of their recruiting class than the game they just saw. They also look at how the coaches interact with the team during both good and bad. Kids aren't stupid. They know genuine when they see it. So do parents. While a big win would have made the visit more enjoyable, I don't see it as being the reason for recruits and their families making a decision. Recruits have seen a lot and had most of their fun well before the game so impressions are already well formed on how they can or cannot see themselves at a particular school.

I can tell you that most player parents want their kids' team to win, probably even moreso than the most irrational of fans.

Correct. See the Holliman tweets from last week. Mentioned the turnovers and starters out and how impressive the showing was...they all know and have been prepped before game on our situation.

If you're an OL player........you're golden

Agree. At certain positions, every program can sell playing time. See Bama QB. If a starter is leaving/graduating and you open competition then playing time is up for grabs. For us it's LB, RB, LT, and CB. We have 5 star, high 4 star for all those accept LB.

What do you think the Louisville blowout, curbstomping of a loss did to FL ST's recruiting? Nothing. You have a bad game once in a season, and it's an anomaly. We used to have 4 games a season this bad. We are showing steady progress.

This post deserves more likes.

recruits don't base decisions off of one loss--alabama is at a different level--recruits know that.

The best recruits that want to play early will also appreciate seeing fresh and soph playing ahead of Jr and sn, because they are better. If they are confident in Thier skill and will to go Orange then they will sign with UT.

We have zero vertical threat... TN used to be know as a team that threw the bomb.. tires of seeing how fast on the trendmill they are when you are running 5 yard routes

So this thread was made to say that all the 3*'s that Butch and Co are after heavy will change their mind? Yeah this class is a joke and just goes to show where we are as a team. A couple of 4*'s and then a ton of 3*'s we beat VT, NC St, UCF and other perennial powerhouses for LOL.

Butch needs to quit offering so many 3*'s and go HARD after the top 100 players and tell the rest they MAY have a chance if those other 100 kids don't take their spot.

You hear the kids say that they don't make a decision based on anyone game. If we go 10/2 almost no impact. We do not have to steal players from Bama. We take them from teams like FL and GA.
