Realistic record for next head coach....revisited

So I made a thread like this recently but figured it would be interesting to do again in light of the recent events.

I dont really expect more than 5 wins personally. I think whatever coach we get is going to struggle mightily. Our team is soft, slow and weak. Its gonna take time to get that crap coached out.

How can you set expectations for an unknown coach and assistants? We may have a racecar, but if Col. Sanders is driving it and the fry cook and burger flippers are in the pit, it won't matter

We were 0-8 in the SEC and not competitive against SEC teams in November. 6-6 or 7-5 with positive trends is realistic. Our returning players have been under coached and under conditioned so dont expect a miracle.

Saban went 6-6 his first year at Bama..

FYI, the Vols visit BTR in 2022 which would be year 5 of the deal.

I voted 10 wins. If Jones had been retained I would have expected at least 7 wins, maybe more next year.

If we don't believe we can get a coach that can do better than that with the talent - why change coaches???

What people "expect to happen" and what people "want to happen" are two different things.

Ten wins next year is highly unlikely. That's putting it kindly.

For me personally its more about our current team. I realize that people think we are a very talented team, but in reality we arent. We are slow, soft, weak and undisciplined. Whatever coach we get will have major work to do to get that stuff corrected.

Its not excuses. Its facts.

Bring in a high power coach like Leach or Lane (or better like Peterson) then we can win 7-8

Bring in a plod like Doreen or promote an untested coordinator and we stand the chance of losing 8 for the second time in history

Butch left a mess. Players who took a year off from S&C, are soft and often injured, and have not been developed at all. It might take an Air RAID or some swagger to get them over the hurdle. I’d rather go the high octane approach and have a chance rather than hunker down and try to rebuild for 3 more years and have that coach run out of town too

I think we win 8 with a floor of 6 and a ceiling of 10 plus a bowl win.

We still have great talent on the roster and soon a good coach will develop it. We still have a top 20 recruiting class and the right hire will bring that up to a top 10 class.

Having a game day coach will make a huge difference.
