Ok we have all talked about new coaches once or twice, an hour, per thread, every other post, for the last 2 and a half days. Realisticly here not gonna dump CPF mid-season. Here are my thoughts for a in season change that could be made in the off week.
Offense.
We have 3 or 4 average WR that have decent hands but no big play potential and 3 or 4 big time potential WR but are not consistant. Split the middle and have 2 of your hands guys and 2 big players out there at all times.
Dump the TE formations and move Chris Brown out to a WR for a hands guy who can still block on sweeps and screens. He is too good to leave on the side line.
Use Crompton about 100 times more. Ainge is a damn good pocket passer even with a broke finger, but, with our pseudo-spead we are running without a legitimate threat for a QB run we are peeing in the wind.
Start using Berry on offense. I know he is still learning the D but he has the potential to line up at QB and still be able to pass. But if Ainge is not in the lineup then lucas Taylor will work as well. But we all know ainge is too slow and injury prone for him to ever see any position besides a true pocket passer.
Start working some real option play. Once again Ainge does not fit this at all. I know it sucks to bench a 4 year starter with a big arm but as was said in a previous thread, "No one is larger than the program."
Wider gaps in the O-line. For a spread O to work you have to have seams. With tight O-line splits there will not be as many or as large of seams for a back like Coker to hit and exploit.
Throw the long ball. Even if its 10 yards over the head of the WR the defense still has to defend it.
Defense.
Switch to a 5-2-4. Why you ask? With a 5 man front you can use the DE's to get penetration down the field and turn the sweep's and pitches back upfield for the LB's and DT's to make the plays. Bring the Safety's up and use them as deep OLB's. Have them split the differance between safety and LB say maybe 6-7 yards off the ball. On dedicated pass plays they will still be able to cover and on naked runs be able to step up and make tackles. On play action there is a fairly high chance of getting burned but we are anyways so why not make them beat you long instead of beat you all around. Instead of a tight man coverage play the CB's a little soft and keep the WR in front of you and not behind you.
