Ok we have all talked about new coaches once or twice, an hour, per thread, every other post, for the last 2 and a half days. Realisticly here not gonna dump CPF mid-season. Here are my thoughts for a in season change that could be made in the off week.

Offense.
We have 3 or 4 average WR that have decent hands but no big play potential and 3 or 4 big time potential WR but are not consistant. Split the middle and have 2 of your hands guys and 2 big players out there at all times.

Dump the TE formations and move Chris Brown out to a WR for a hands guy who can still block on sweeps and screens. He is too good to leave on the side line.

Use Crompton about 100 times more. Ainge is a damn good pocket passer even with a broke finger, but, with our pseudo-spead we are running without a legitimate threat for a QB run we are peeing in the wind.

Start using Berry on offense. I know he is still learning the D but he has the potential to line up at QB and still be able to pass. But if Ainge is not in the lineup then lucas Taylor will work as well. But we all know ainge is too slow and injury prone for him to ever see any position besides a true pocket passer.

Start working some real option play. Once again Ainge does not fit this at all. I know it sucks to bench a 4 year starter with a big arm but as was said in a previous thread, "No one is larger than the program."

Wider gaps in the O-line. For a spread O to work you have to have seams. With tight O-line splits there will not be as many or as large of seams for a back like Coker to hit and exploit.

Throw the long ball. Even if its 10 yards over the head of the WR the defense still has to defend it.

Defense.

Switch to a 5-2-4. Why you ask? With a 5 man front you can use the DE's to get penetration down the field and turn the sweep's and pitches back upfield for the LB's and DT's to make the plays. Bring the Safety's up and use them as deep OLB's. Have them split the differance between safety and LB say maybe 6-7 yards off the ball. On dedicated pass plays they will still be able to cover and on naked runs be able to step up and make tackles. On play action there is a fairly high chance of getting burned but we are anyways so why not make them beat you long instead of beat you all around. Instead of a tight man coverage play the CB's a little soft and keep the WR in front of you and not behind you.

Offense

If Ainge's pinky hurts so bad that he can't hand off the ball the right way bench him and put in someone that can.

Get a little more creative than a 5 yard curl.

You know for s**ts and giggles, put in one of those all world WR's we got this year in our top 5 recruiting class and create a play that allows him just to out run a DB. Since these guys can't understand this offense of Cutcliffe's.

Maybe just maybe throw a pass down field.

Defense

Tackle.

1. Fulmer resign
2. Empty the benches and find somebody on the 85 man roster that can play special teams
3. Karl, Parrish, Hardesty, (to a certain extent) Bolton, Ainge, and maybe Heffney should start to see their playing time diminish and we start clearing the benches of these highly rated recruits.

You are 100% correct, but there is a real problem with this now. CPF is feeling the heat, and he typically responds to that by withdrawing, and playing fewer players that he thinks gives him a chance to win.

In CPF's mind he is thinking that we should be running the ball more and controlling the game. While most consider that a fanatasy based on the way we have been running the football, it is really the only answer that CPF has.

Apparently crompton is nowhere near as good as ainge. So its a dropoff there.I agree the pinky is hurting his performance. We thought it wouldn't matter because we were supposed to be able to run which is becoming a tired subject.I don't understand why we haven't put anyone in the game to help open things up.Did they really think we could nickel and dime florida.Do they think that crap is going to work the rest of the year.I have a answer to that, one word No.Defensively i was a fan of johnny chavis for along time. This defense is definitely the worst he has had while at tennessee.Guys we have seen it before this team won't improve on any of these area's.They just don't have the horses as lex vol said in guitar shots. Its true all of this recruiting talent is not panning out.The question is,is it the talent or the coaches i think most of us already know the answer to that one.

I'm still in shock and really don't know what to say. What a whippin our guys were handed. I have to buy a gator fan at work lunch for the third time in a row, sucks! I just don't see why UT cannot impose it's will on another team. I mean Cutcliff had said many time that we will take what they give us. What ever happened to taking what we wanted! I just don't see things getting any better for a while. The linebackers have basically disappeared, the front four cannot penetrate any o-line consistently, the secondary is terrible, Heffney is having his worst year ever in my opinion, and I don't see anyone on the roster to make things look better next year, especially defensively. I really don't understand the whole handing off with the opposite hand thing. Your pinky has been broke for three to four weeks now, should be close to being healed and your afraid to stick the ball properly into your running backs basket. What a joke!

hell we ran for 37 yards...like it was going to make a difference what side we ran on...why not just run on the side of his good hand and eliminate the reverse handoff crap...that had to take 2 days to put in the playbook and learn

we have to have a whole week to work on special teams. you talk about a dagger int he heart early in the fight??? that one hurt once again. i agree with most of you, our defense sux already, start yanking people off the nech to see if they can beat some people out at their position. hasn't CPF always catered to the seniors for the most part, and let them have their chances early in the season. he always thinks he has to be all things to all people. my hats off to urban myer and the two back (with tebow, the three back set) that absolutely made hefney look ridiculous. froze him everytime. i am going tomail CPF a letter this week just to tell himone thing that no onw ever mentions even on the board.......M JOHNSON IS THE WORST PLAYER ON OUR DEFENSE.

The 5-2-4 is called the Oklahoma 5-4 we used it whin I played high school football back in 1964 it is good for option and run but has problems with short pass and plays around the LB.
