Will SC be a much improved team? Yes. But so will we. And let’s face the facts, we could have easily scored 60+ on them last year. Heupel took his foot off the gas. While I don’t see us completely dominating them this year, we still get the win.
Pitts best season since 1976 was last year. They had a 1st round 6th year SR QB and the best WR in the nation and barely beat us. If Hooker plays that whole game and we were healthy, we beat them easily by 14+. Slovis isn’t Pickett.
It seems you believe other teams can improve but we can’t. Pitt and SC are by no means toss ups. They are wins.
Are you sure they will be? What gives you the feeling they will be so much more improved and better coached? I mean, to me it seems they'd have to take a couple of steps forward and we'd need to take at least a step or three backwards to make it a legitimate toss up.Are you sure about that (the "we" part)? Everyone just assumes we are a better team this year, and maybe we are in some regards. Players will have benefitted being in the program a year longer and we've added a little more depth here and there. However speaking strictly from a personnel standpoint the question you have to ask yourself is, did we replace the starters we lost last year with better players this year? Im not sure we can honestly say yes to that. Do we have guys that will be as good or better players than Cade Mays, Tyon Evans, Velus Jones, Alontae Taylor, Matthew Butler, etc? I'd say no or at best, we dont know yet. It remains to be seen if any of these guys have taken monumental leaps in their development over last year. I just think we are way overestimating this team's improvement from last year to this year and I still say our work in the transfer portal this past offseason was very disappointing. Especially on the defensive side of the ball.

I think some might be overestimating us in general, but maybe you're underestimating us against South Carolina. And Pitt too.
Maybe I'm wrong, but one thing is for certain. Nobody knows yet and as my Ole buddy @butchna would say "we're all gonna find out at the same time".
I just always find it funny how so many Vol fans seem to know more about our opponents than they do us. We have fans that think we beat Alabama before we beat Florida strictly because "history".1. The game is on the road, which is always tougher to win.
2. SC made more strides in the transfer portal than we did this past offseason.
3. Despite our fast start in last year's game, SC adjusted and had us pretty much shut down in the 2nd half. I just wonder how much of that will carry over to this year's game.
I'm not saying we're not going to win. I'm just saying it's silly to put SC in the same "guaranteed win" category as Ball State or Vandy. It's a toss up. Could go either way.
If you dont think Pitt and South Carolina are toss ups, you're underestimating them and overestimating us.
Damn Skraight Skippy! Same goes for guaranteed L's.Damn straight Skippy. There are no guaranteed W's on our schedule - not just after one mediocre season. As soon as you/we think there is, or should I say - as soon as our team thinks there are guaranteed W's on our schedule, at least one of those teams will whoop us when we aren't looking.
Is anyone out there in VN that is willing to bet your home that any SEC opponent is a guaranteed W this season?
