1. Gruden- its his to turn down. I say its a 70-30 chance we get him.
2. Mullen- great x and o coach. Done more with less at Miss St.
3. Petrino- say what you will he owned up to messing up. One word WINNER..
4. Tressel- the longer the search goes on the more his name will come up.

Read on one of these threads that 40 million@7 years was being "offered" to Gruden.
I would talk to Kelly first maybe he`s tired of being snubbed by the BCS at Oregon.

Realistic Coach for Tennessee?????????
As I ponder this question, I reflect on a conversation I had two weeks ago with a former player prior to the Alabama game and a comment I heard last night on the Nation.
First we need a coach that will stop the divide in the fan base. Secondly and more importantly we need a coach with Tennessee ties, a coach that has experienced the program and know whats it is to wear the orange.

Gruden, everybody's pick with ties to 86' and 87' teams under Majors as a grad asst.Definitely would bring excitement back to the program INSTANT MONEY WINDFALL.

Cutcliffe, proven coach on the offensive side but still a question if he can get it done against Alabama, Florida's, etc. add Chavis definite yes.

Fulmer would be like Snyder at K-State, he would be hungry to prove the naysayers wrong and would be successful but the Nation would be divided.

Peyton, no coaching experience but definitely capable of being an outstanding coach and has the name and presence to be a one of the best. Will he ever coach?Peyton would be a winner and INSTANT CASH WINDFALL FOR TENNESSEE.

Tee Martin, not ready for head coach yet but one day will be one. Not ready for head coach yet but would love to have him on the staff.

Dale Jones, long time coach at Applachian State on defense. A legend player, coach I don't know about to explain I don't follow that league. Dale would be an older fan favorite for assistant coach.

Marion Hobby, good asst coach.
Jay Graham, great asst coach.
Tracy Hayworth, great asst coach.

If you go outside the family for a head coach, go after a proven head coach; Stoops, Kelly, Del Rio, etc.

If South Carolina can go get a Lou Holtz and Steve Spurrier, WHY DO WE HAVE A DOOLEY?

Dont understand the Petrino love. He does not play defense and like most explosive offenses they struggle against strong defenses. He struggled against Ala and LSU and even if he was still at Ark he would always be 3rd at best in the West. We need a defensive minded Coach with a productive Offense. Petrino will never be able to recruit anywhere close to the level he used too. Its already come out the people who work with him hate him and isnt trustworthy. We already have that now. How many Mom's and parents are going to let him sit in their house and believe anything he says and want your child to go play for him. I just dont understand some fans take on this. Nothing good could come from hiring him and there is just too many other options out there. I will go

Gruden
Del Rio
Strong
Tressel
I like Carrol but wouldnt trust him either. There is a reason he left SC when he did.
Patterson
Peterson, even though I doubt he leaves Boise.

Imagine Gruden with Del Rio as a DC...

I'd rather have Smart than Strong. I'd rather have Fulmer than Tressel. I'd rather have Dooley than Petrino or Mullen.

Smart over Strong? I don't see that at all. It's not even clear how much control Smart has over the defense. Strong is a proven commodity as a DC and HC.

I have seen Carroll's name mentioned by several posters. I have two questions for you. One, why would you want a proven cheater? Two, why would he leave Seattle? He is being successful there and making as much or more money than he would here. Like Kiffin, he's a "west-coast guy". Did we not learn our lesson?

I don't think we will ever know the coaching canidates as I don't think the university will let it be public that we were turned down by anyone! Simply a new HC will be introduced...we will never know what went on behind the scenes and it should be that way. Previous mistakes will not be repeated.
