Real UT Fans????????

Just browsing through the forum I've noticed that a few posters are telling other posters that they're not true fans if they happen to find things wrong with the program. I will not come on here and tell anyone that they aren't a true vol fan. Regardless of what side of the fence you are on, if you wear orange on Saturday's and cheer the Vols on then you are a true fan.

I myself have been a Fulmer fan and have defended him for several seasons now. But after seeing the current trend our program is taking, I do believe it is time for a change, regardless of what happens the rest of the season. The fact that I feel that way doesn't make me any less of a fan than anyone else. Bottom line is that I think we need a new coach. I think we may very well loose several more games this year. I think our defense and special teams are a liability. I think a team that can control our passing game will be in great shape because we aren't a very good running team. Having said all of that, I will root for the VOLS every Saturday. I will wear my orange win or lose. I AM A TRUE FAN!!!!!!!

I've already been hated on for being honest about how bad we suck this year, so I went into my room and cried a little. But the fact remains that I bleed orange and white.

Oh, please.....I am a true fan who cares about the program....one who refuses to accept mediocrity...one who has a strong response when we see Tennessee at the bottom of the SEC East....sorry, but a true fan does not sit around and think that anything goes...nope, the needs of our program have to supersede individuals and personalities....losing is not the Tennessee tradition and these guys who are our players did not come to Tennessee to lose...it is not acceptable.

To be honest, we are all Vol Fans or we wouldn't be here (except for the few voyers who want to experience life on the Orange side).

this entire line of debate is just senseless. Those measuring their self worth by the "size of their fanhood" need lives.

I myself want hamilton to clean house,but only cause i am a true fan.I want this program to do what its capable of doing.With the talent on the team,they could be alot better with better coaching.But i still watch every game and root for them just as hard.I dont want them to lose at all,but i think we may lose a few more this season. Go Vols!

I totally agree with all of your comments and think that being honest about the way you feel about the state of our program doesn't make you less of a fan. In fact, if you are not ready for a change, you might be the one that needs to check your loyalty for our team.Being loyal to a coach over being loyal to a program is not what I call a true fan. Tennessee deserves better and coaches have to be held accountable each and every year. It's time for a change whether we win out or lose the rest of them.

Neither one applies; I just don't do it for the same reason that I don't yell from the sidelines. No one who needs to can hear me or see me, so what's the point?

I have yelled during a football game exactly twice in the last four years. Once was when I asked a lineman coming to the sideline why (on a play where he was supposed to pull and kick out the end) he took such a deep course, which caused the fullback to run into him at the mesh point and fumble the ball; the lineman responded with "You didn't see it and you don't know what you're talking about."

The other time was last night watching UVA/Pitt, when those two buffoons in the booth were screaming for intentional grounding on UVA even though the QB (who was getting sacked) threw it right into the hands of the running back (who dropped it).

Come on admit it . . . when you see linemen releasing you reflexively yell "SCREEEEEEN!!" and when you see a fumble you yell "BALLLL!!". It's coach law.

I don't yell "screen" for personal reasons that are hilarious. I most definitely do yell "BALL!" If it's a game I'm really into, I'll jump off the couch and start motioning the other way too.

It frightened the crap out of future Mrs OV the first time I did that. It may be related to the fact that I nearly landed squarely on her dog.:p

It was the most obscene rant I probably have ever had, all over a game I don't care about. Here is what my day consisted of yesterday:

1) Wake up in unfamilar bed that's roughly in the shape of a half-pipe
2) Shave (which I despise doing)
3) Take a shower under a head with no water pressure, as well as water that smells like rotted iron
4) Dress "nicely", as future Mrs OV is dragging me to a wedding
5) Sit through a ploddingly boring Catholic wedding service
6) Feel hunger pangs, as brilliant couple has elected to go with the "three hours between wedding and reception" plan
7) Be forced to stay out just late enough to miss most of the afternoon games ending
8) Be forced to listen to blather from a bunch of Ohio State loving human neutron stars
9) Feel profuse itching on my face and neck roughly every 12 seconds, until I feel as if putting a garden rake to the area would help
10) Get lost in the city of Akron (not fun in broad daylight, let alone late at night)
11) Listen to two idiots go on for a solid minute and a half about "poor officiating", when the very first replay clearly shows the pass being thrown directly to #37 (the UVA running back)

And, because I was responsible for driving, there was no way I was going to partake in any spirits....so imagine being surrounded by 250+ Ohio State fans while sober in addition to everything else.

It's doesn't really get bad until somebody shanks a punt and you start yelling "PETER PETER PETER".

Those that still show a bit of optimism and a positive attitude get much more grief than those who just whine all of the time. That's to be expected considering the majority of the posters on here are like that. No offense to anyone.

There is a difference between "recognizing" or "admitting" that we suck and just overall being a crybaby who is always bytching and complaining regardless of what happens.

Just like there is a difference between being positive or optimistic and wearing orange blinders.

The biggest problem is that most tend to think that one way or the other it revolves around Fulmer and that's stupid. Fulmer is a problem but so are our players and plenty of the rest of our coaching staff and believe it or not, some other TEAMS are our problem as well.
