As I recall, when John Ward retired, Kesling was among like three finalists for the radio play by play job. Mike Keith was another of the finalists[don't remember the other]. I have heard Keith on air doing Titans games and really like his high energy style, and the fact that he doesn't seem to mind being a bit of a "homer" on air. I have been a little less impressed with Mr. Kesling.

My question is this. Did Tennessee miss the boat when it gave Ward's seat to Bob Kesling?

Waddya think folks???

Kessling is too high collar..no offense to him, but I suspect he would feel as much at home with any other team...it just seems like a business to him. I personally would love a homer that bleeds orange and shows some emotion. I would love to have a Keith Jackson type..Keith Jackson is the only guy I know that could compete with John Ward. No matter what he talked about he could make you want to listen.

Keith was already associated with the Tight-ones when Ward announced his retirement. Kesling was really the only other logical choice.

Losing Ward was like losing Peyton, we were spoiled having both of them and most likely will never have anyone like them.

Bob tries and I give him an E for effort. It could be worse.

At least he is not calling people other names all the time, like he did with Deon Grant in 99. How many times did he call him Dieon Sanders that year?

This is the one time I wish we could clone John Ward. Get him back in the booth. Bob is doing a good job, but he just don't have the energy of what we as fans have come to expect. As far a Mike Keith, he's a screamer into the mic. Just listed to his Kroger sack or Amsouth first down. Why would those plays be sponsored. Money hungry Pro Football. Who needs it.

bob is filling shoes that are 19 and he only wheres 8 1/2 so i give him credit. he is not as bad as that guy on jefferson pilot that does nothing but talk about his stupid NFL career all the time. during the UAB game he made like 15 references to his NFL career. *if bob ever was like that i would kick my own ass*

Im getting more used to Bob as the seasons come and go.

I dont remember who and all it was calling the Bowl game on radio this year? But i loved the attitude, Late in the 4th Qtr once all of our starters and 2nd team guys was even out of the game and we set up to punt.

A&M called a time out to freeze Colquitt, Those guys on the radio was going off about it. Something to the nature of "ahhh common, thats ridiculous your down 38-7 and your trying to mess with the punter? Id say if your CPF you pull off the punt team, and send your starters back out and hang 6 more on them for that low class call." :clapping:

I like the shoe size thing. JP crew sux with the 3 daves. I don't know which of the trio is worse.

Keith Jackson's too busy drinking Gatorade and sniffing Croc butt. I DESPISE him!! I remember during the NC game when Dwayne Goodrich grabbed that interception and was off to the races. Keith Jackson wanted us to lose so bad, he could hardly muster any enthusiasm for calling Goodrich's name.

I hate Keith Jackson.

kieth jackson blows, the reason he came out of retirement was because the team he thought should win didn't, but what a way for John to end his career!!!

I just wish I could hear UT games on the radio down here. Instead, I have to listen to the asinine commentators on ESPN, JP, and worst of all... CBS! I hate those guys!

If you've got a computer with speakers and an internet connection, you can listen to UT games on the radio anytime you want.

Yeah, just go to www.wlac.com. They are they flagship station here in middle Tennessee. If you go to utsports and try to link up there, they go through yahoo, which you have to pay for.

The problem Bob had IMO

1) he had to come after a legend like Ward, he was gonna make anyone following him look bad.
2) he was a tv newscaster (sports) in knoxville and hadn't been doing radio. You could tell he was having trouble get used to the faster pace for radio.
3) I think he had too many irons in the fire, I dont think he was spending enough time in preparation. Doing a TV newscast every day, radio, and the phil fulmer show, I just dont think he had enough time to prepare and work on his style.
