RB health?

This offense is one Jamal Lewis-type player away from being almost unstoppable.
In this offense, I think someone like AK or Arian foster, or even Gerald Riggs would be a better fit than Jamal. Any of the old Vol greats would be awesome but as far as fit goes. For a more general term, We want a Marshall Faulk/Thurman Thomas/Reggie bush type. Even a Ronnie Brown or Rickey Williams. Versatile backs that can literally do anything and kill you in space. This offense with its insanely wide splits creates a ton of space. That's why the idea of Squirell white and Dylan Sampson coming into their own is so exciting.

Good points. Altho I'm not sure I'd put Gerald Riggs in the same category as AK and Arian Foster.

not same category all 3 of them are slightly different backs. I am talking about guys with skillsets that match what this offense does. All of those guys are dangerous in space and can still run inside the tackles. Not saying all of them are equal at all. Funny enough (and this will be a super unpopular opinion) I think Hurd would have been insane in this offense.

Honestly, any of the top 10-20 vols greats at RB would be welcomed on this team I just think some skill sets would mesh better.

I would add Charlie Garner to this group.

For sure we have had so many great backs of all types over the years lol think about this from 1998-2001 most of these guys played together at some point and all went to the NFL. Bryson was a freaking fullback at UT and started at RB in the NFL that's how deep we were.. we can bring that back and this is the perfect offense for it the way spread the field. just gotta use that sales pitch.

From 1998-2001
Troy Fleming
Travis Henry
Travis Stephens
Jamal Lewis
Shawn Bryson
Cedric Houston

All our current RBs can get the job done provided they get a small lane to run through. We really need a back that can create his own lane by either making the first defender miss or breaking the tackle.

And another boatload behind that in the 80’s and 90’s. Nothing wrong with having a big back that is fast and can get the tough yards too. Those kind of guys fit in any system. Now thing wrong with having a variety of types backs. We will eventually get the do it all back we have been missing for some time. This is not a knock on the backs we have now, they are all quality players and play hard. Wright is getting better, Sampson is promising and Smalls produces and gives all he has got. And I still haven’t give up on Justin Thomas. Having said that, nothing wrong with being more well rounded at the position. GBO!

Someone who thinks Jamal would not fit in this offense,Jamal was fast.At 225-230,you did not catch him if he got clear.Granted, Alvin or Garner would be perfect for this offense. But,who doesn't think that Dylan will not fit well?

I believe the point is. Jamal didn’t catch many balls out in space. Similar to like a third down back, so to speak. And I agree about if Jamal is even, he’s leaving.
