KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - On the basis of her outstanding recent efforts for the No. 3 Tennessee Lady Vol softball team, UT sophomore left fielder and USA Softball Women's Futures National Team member Raven Chavanne has been nominated for the U.S. Olympic Committee's April 2011 Female Athlete of the Month award.

Fans are encouraged to cast their vote for the accolade at Twtpoll :: Cast your vote now for April USOC Female Athlete of the Month. *Online poll counts for 10 percent of overall vote. (via @USOlympic) with the public tally accounting for 10 percent of the total vote, while the other 90 percent is composed of those cast via the Olympic Family.

An invitee, alongside fellow Lady Vol sophomore outfielder Kat Dotson, to the 2011 USA Softball Women's National Team Selection Camp next month in Chula Vista, Calif., Chavanne has wreaked havoc on opposing teams all season long from her lead-off spot in the batting order while helping guide Tennessee to a 44-7 overall record and a 20-5 league-leading mark in Southeastern Conference action.

During the month of April, the Thousand Oaks, Calif., native hit a robust .485 (32-of-66) at the plate with 19 runs scored, four doubles, a triple and went 9-for-9 on stolen bases while building a career-long 14-game hitting streak. Chavanne posted at least two hits in each of the last six contests during April, tallying a .778 mark (10-fof-14) over that stretch, and reached base by hit or walk in seven consecutive plate appearances during the opening two match-ups of UT's series against Arkansas.

In addition to being selected as the nominee for the USOC's April 2011 Female Athlete of the Month award, Chavanne was recognized as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division I Co-National Player of the Week, the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Player of the Week for Week 12 of the season, April 25-May 1, and the Lady Vol Athlete of the Week (May 2).

Chavanne is already making her presence felt throughout the Tennessee career record books despite having not yet completed two full seasons clad in the Orange & White. The 5-8 outfielder currently holds the top batting average in UT history at .463, well ahead of the mark put up by former Lady Vol All-American India Chiles (.417), and is the program leader in career on-base percentage at .526. She rates sixth all-time in slugging percentage (.572), seventh in stolen bases (66) and sits just outside the top 10 in both hits (173) and runs scored (123).

The SEC regular season title and top-seeding for the upcoming SEC Tournament is on the line this weekend in Gainesville, Fla., as No. 5/3 Tennessee ventures to face No. 4/6 Florida in a huge three-game series at Pressly Stadium. All three contests are slated for TV coverage: the opener will be broadcast via FOX Sports Florida/SUN Sports at 4:30 p.m. ET, Saturday's contest is slated for live broadcast on ESPN at Noon ET and Sunday's series finale will be shown on ESPNU at 3 p.m. ET. Raven is one of those 'it' girls, you know that seem to possess that extra intangible qualities to be able to take her team to another level/ dimension. Her on-field credentials are quite impressive, but the 'it' factor she brings to this team will garner TN championships and a lot more followers.

Other 'it' girl candidates are Maddi Shipman and Ellen Renfroe IMO.
