It's a human condition.
When you are emotionally invested in someone or something, you will choose one or the other to explain why bad things happened to the object of your affection.

Optimistic, aka posi-Vols will rationalize away what happened by saying things like:
We had some important undisclosed injuries
We played vanilla not to give things away
We overlooked what turned out to be a very good team.

Pessimistic, aka nega-Vols will say they are just being rational or realistic by pointing out:
We were outplayed on both lines by smaller guys.
We were out schemed and out coached.
We should have lost to 20 point underdog.

What's funny is that both sides COULD be correct.
We probably won't know until September 24 when we play, oh who is it?....yeah, same as always...

As mad as I was Thursday night, I'm sitting here right now thinking we got a win. There are many things this team needs to improve to do what is being forecast this season, and as long as the coaches work on the problem areas, and there is quite a few right now, we will be fine. Now, we play poorly against Va Tech, then Bristol will be an utter disaster.
