Rapidly declining expectations

I supported the last 3 firings. I supported the hard pass on Schiano, although he checked several boxes UT needs. He was tough (perhaps overbearing). He was a defensive-minded coach, and he had success bringing a program out of the gutter. I supported the hiring of Pruitt because he knew “what good looked like.” He was going to bring us the Saban blueprint. He was going to recruit at a high level. He was going to bring in a good staff. So far, all of those things have happened.

But at this point, Pruitt has many question marks.
- Can he sell the program and handle the press?
- Which positions are he going to restock first, when we are short in so many areas?
- Can he motivate players accustomed to losing?
- Can he develop underperforming players?
- Can he handle game management?

Going into this season, everyone on here thought repeating the 5-7 record, while losing 6 games by 4 scores was off the table. But after 4 games, a 5-7 record is likely out of reach. The only sign of progress will be whether we beat Vandy, and the overall margin of defeat. A Florida team that gave us 3 turnovers still beat us by 2x the spread.

So assuming we can’t show improvement on the scoreboard, we put our faith in Fulmer to see the building blocks are in place for a better record NEXT year. That is going to be hard for the fans, the media, and the recruits to get behind.

I disagree. There were several fans being realistic in the preseason and calling for us to hopefully get to 6 wins and a bowl, but there were a good many posters who were naively calling for 7-8 wins as the "floor" for this team. Some even speculated that we could beat UF and get #2 in the east. Didn't expect to be 1-3 at this point with the early schedule being so light, but no way should someone have been calling for this team to get 7-8 wins. Hell, 7 would have been borderline miraculous.

Still, it's this way every year in the preseason. I guarantee you that many of our fans will expect kids from this upcoming recruiting class to be "the difference" and we'll be pushing UGA in the east next year. Nothing wrong with that. Fan is short for fanatical after all, but when the expectations are so high, the fall is rather dramatic.

Declining expectations...………..now there is a statement. I am so used to that it isn't even necessary to think about it.
We aint at the bottom yet.
I dont think UT can take another hit finacially to just fire everyone. NO GasMan Money to Bail this thing out.
The constant drum beat on here...….is to spend the BIG Money for a Coach. Well, Michigan and UCLA is a proof that doesn't work. Texas A&M will be soon.

They will probably have to ride it out another year after this.
Let Fulmer go. Hire an AD. Let that AD hire the next Coach. I would say our "declining expectations" will be with us for a few years.

Umm Michigan and Texas A & M are extremely relevant so I am not sure what your point is. Chip Kelly’s offenses struggled for years in the NFL and it isn’t a shock they are struggling now. We would take Harbaugh or Fisher in a heartbeat
