During this depressing time called the off-season I always pull out the tapes of my favorite BIG ORANGE football games of the past and watch them til the season gets cranked back up again. I was doing this yesterday and started trying to figure out what I thought were my favorite and most exciting games and man I couldn't believe how hard it was to come up with a top 3 out of all the VOL football games that I've seen. I thought it would be interesting to compare lists, so rank your top 3 most exciting or favorite VOL football games of the past and why you think so. Believe me it's not easy but after careful consideration heres my top 3.

1- 86 Sugar Bowl victory over Miami
I was sitting in the Superdome loving every minute of this one, shutting the mouths of the cockiest team in the land at the time. Testaverde on his a$$ all night long, the look on Michael Irvin's face on the sideline in shock at the a$$ kickin they were taking. Gotta be my favorite.

2- Miracle comeback win over Notre Dame in South Bend in 91

I have despised Notre Dame all my life and the ND loss
the year before in Knoxville only added to that so this one was sweet. Everytime I watch it I still can't believe we came back from that far down to beat Lou Holtz and the Irish in Notre Dame Stadium with Touchdown Jesus looking on and the Golden Dome in the background, what a great day that was!!! I still despise ND and Holtz.

3- 2001 win over the 17 point favorite Florida Gators in the Swamp.

Hardly anyone was giving us a chance in this one not even most VOL fans, the Gators and their fans and Spurrier thought they were going to the NC game but Travis Stephens and the rest of the VOLS saw to it that they didn't, I left the Swamp feelin good that night. I will never forget the looks on the Gator fans faces as they filed out of the stadium almost in tears as they listened to us BIG ORANGE FAITHFUL sing ROCKY TOP over and over and over again. It was priceless!!!

Well, theres my 3 favorites, hard to believe I don't have a Bama game in there but man I'm telling you it's hard to pick a top 3 when you get to thinking about all the great games. What's your top 3 ?

Dont' forget when we won the NC in '98 that win over FL was huge, great game, never heard Neyland so loud the place was literally shaking when the FL kicker missed the field goal

When Wilhoit hit a 51 yarder, to win at home against Florida.

that is my personal favorite game because it's the most exciting win i've ever been to. Overall though, the win @ ND would be up there as well as the 2001 win at Florida. the 5 OT win against Alabama was HUGE too.

Yeah, I lost my voice on the Wilhoit kick!

Though is wasn't the MOST exciting game ever, this year's UT-GA game was quite satisfying to watch :)

I know you guys talking about the field goal in that game a few years back are just trying to bait me into the 2,573rd discussion of the officiating and I'm not falling for it.

And you mention this only to goad me into the 972nd discussion of the Gaffney non-catch, but it won't work

Obviously '98 nc game but out of games I've been to I'd go with:
1.'98 Fla, 2.Ark (I went from jumping off the top of Neyland to having an orgasim in the stands).
3. the Wilhoit kick
4. Cal game just from a shock and excitement stand point
the ut fla b-ball game at tba last year might top those. you can't beat waiting outside and Pearl giving us pizza and saying what he said, then going in and beating them on a last second shot.

1982 - beating Bama and breaking the streak.
Some of my favorite vol games are

1. 1995 @ Alabama - Finally ended the streak. It was a thing of beauty going 80 yards for a TD on the first play.

2. 1998 @ UGA - Everyone thought this was UGA's year to beat the Vols. UT-22 UGA-3.

3. 1998 vs. UF - Snapped a 5 game losing streak to the Gators in dramatic fashion.

4. 1985 vs. Miami - No explanation needed.

5. 1991 @ ND - I was too young to remember this game, but I can't get enough of watching the Tennessee vs. ND DVD that I have.

6. 1997 vs. Auburn - Peyton finally leads UT to a championship.

7. 1998 vs. Arkansas - Not a "great" game for UT, but it was one of the most exciting games I have ever been at.

8. 1999 Fiesta Bowl vs. FSU - Finally won another NC. This was, without a doubt, the best game I have ever been to.

9. 2001 @ UF - Proved the doubters wrong. One the Eastern Division and gave ourselves a chance to play for an NC. Also known as "The Travis Stephens Show".

10. 2001 vs. Michigan - Laid the wood to another overrated Big 11 team.

11. 2003 vs. Miami - Once again, proved the doubters wrong. We shut down "The Soldier" and ended "The U's" win streak at home.

12. 2006 vs. Cal - Erased the memories of a bad '05 season in a big way. Meachem started his campaign to be the best WR in the nation.

13. 2006 @ UGA - Best D in the country and we hung 51 on 'em.

14. 2003 @ Alabama - Arguably the most exciting game against our biggest rival.

15. 2002 vs. Arkansas - 6 OT thriller in Knoxville.

16. 2004 vs. UF - Wilhoit clinches the game with a 51 yarder with seconds remaining.

These aren't in any particular order and I am sure that there are some that I am forgetting.

How can you bring up officiating when Gaffney drops a pass in the endzone, that's called a touchdown.
