at Kentucky as the QB Coach.

Several names have popped up as possible candidates this week, including a pair of out-of-work offensive coordinators: Randy Sanders, who played quarterback at Tennessee from 1984-88 and worked on the Vols' staff for 17 seasons; and Brent Pease, who ran UK's offense and coached quarterbacks under Guy Morriss in 2001 and 2002.

Sanders had many successes as UT's coordinator after taking over for David Cutcliffe in 1998. He called plays in the Vols' 1999 Fiesta Bowl national championship win over Florida State. The Vols finished third or fourth in all offensive categories in 2004 and whipped Texas A&M 38-7 in the Fiesta Bowl.
But the Tennessee offense fizzled last fall, and Sanders was a casualty as Tennessee had its first losing season since 1988.

Pease followed Morriss to Baylor but was fired after a season in which the Bears finished a surprising 5-6.
Pease, who recruited current UK quarterback Andre Woodson, said he's talked with Brooks about the opening and would love to come back to Lexington.

"I was one guy who never wanted to leave Kentucky in the first place," Pease said.

Good luck Randy :dance2: :dance2: :dance2:

Man Thank God he is gone! :dance2: He's the reason why our :gun: offense sucked so long :banghead: . You guys are congratulating him :clapping: , well I am glad that he will continue to earn a paycheck :D and take care of his family, but some poor offense will suffer tremendously :banghead: . Thank God that UT Football has been delivered from this offensive curse :yahoo: !

The guy didn't survive at UT for 17 years for no reason. You have to think that he has a bit of skill to teach football. Granted, it's probable that a change needed to happen, but I find it hard to believe that he was solely responsible for this last season.

And if I'm Kentucky, who better could we hire to game plan for the Vols next year? :matrix:

He is average to good coach. Predictable is his problem. If he can be imaginative then maybe he'll have some success. Either way, good luck to him until he faces the Vols.

Whatever you think of him, I don't think there was any doubt that he was a really good RB coach in the 90s.

Good luck in making a living..

But always remember average Coaches equal average teams.

Too bad it took Fulmer 6 YEARS to realize that!

Very interesting. I don't think it is likely.

Are u blind or something, did u see our offense do any better when he quit, i sure didnt. U guys think it was all Sanders, thats just not right. He ran Fulmers offense for goodness sakes, he called what the head coach wanted called. Everybody blamed Randy for the vols offensive problems and they will see this year that it wasnt Randy at all.

Don't think Randy was 100% at fault but he was responsible for running the offense so he does carry lion's share of fault. He failed because against teams with the same level of talent or better he couldn't get job done. One level higher PF failed. They all failed on offensive side. Randy got the axe becuase he was running the part of the team last year that just didn't meet expectations they failed miserably. They couldn't even score more then 15 points against the Gamecocks. I don't give credit to Spurrier for that. I believe it was lack of team cohesiveness on offensive for which both Sanders and PF are responsible for. So, Randy did what he thought was right before PF was forced to do what he knew was right. All with crystal balls can say it should have been sooner. We all wish we had those crystal balls in everyday life. But we don't. PF fixed it with hiring Cut. Things will change next year. Dramatically.

Only way it changes is if Cutcliffe has full control over the offense

No you may be blind or something because, it aas towards the end of the season, do you really think installing a new offense at that point of the season was going to change things around? The Offense this year will be much greater than the last 3 or 4 years. I see that alot of you guys have problem with loyalty issues. Football is a business, there is no loyalty! College football coaching is a cutthroat business. Randy Sanders was not responsible for the national championship in 1999, it was Coach Cutt's system. Coaching is a what have you done for me lately business. This is why Phil is on the hot seat. The effects of the National Championship have wore off, so now its back to the board on when will we do it again. If you are a true UT VOL fan, you will know that we have always held our own on defense, but having poor execution on offense is the main reason we lost games. We may have gotten steamrolled 3 or 4 times over the last couple of seasons, but overall the ineffectiveness of our offense was our downfall. I can't recall too many games where we had a offensive explosion and we lost. You scream that Sanders was not the problem, well he was not the total problem, but most of it he was he was the predictable coordiantor that caused the demise of our program. CPF is not power hungry, if someone's system is working he will go along with whatever is working. I like Sanders for being involved with our family, but he shouldn't have been offensive coordinator. Now that Coach Cutt is back, we will be back among the elite and if you don't believe then maybe you and the rest of the naysayers that are in The Vols Family may want to go and join The Florida Gators Family, because we need true Vol fans here!

Hey man I was raised out of the womb on Memphis Basketball! You can't fault me for that. I have to take a shot at you because your name is GAVOL that starts with GA (Georgia). I love The Vols  but I was also raised on Memphis basketball :dance2: and formed my own opinion on football. I chosed the Vols every since RB Tony Thompson  in the early 90's used to soar 46" from the 3 yard line and into the endzone. Do you remember those days?

I can't help that my Dad moved us to GA when I was 8. :D

I remember Tony Thompson well. My first memories on Vol football involve Steve Alatorre at QB and Hershel Walker stepping on Bill Bates' chest . . . and I still managed to be a fan.

Back to the topic . . . I'd still like to hear what people think about this. Whatever you think of the playcalling, the Sanders/Fulmer relationship etc . . . Do you think Randy can be a good position coach and possibly a coordinator down the line? I really think the answer is yes.

I think that he'll be a good fit at Kentucky if he goes there. They could probably benefit from him.

I would love to see Randy succeed elsewhere just to show all the UT faithful that disliked him and blamed him for all of our problems
