He'll work the same wonders with Woodson that he did with Ainge between his first and second year.

It's always amazing to me how guys can reinvent themselves at other schools. Al Borges was our OC when our offense was rated like 100th in the country, tedford took the same personel and all of a sudden we were a top-20 offense. Now at auburn he is considered some sort of guru.

Last season Oregon fans hated jimbo fisher, now he has the job at LSU. :dunno:

RS was never considered a bad qb coach, and he got the lion's share of the blame for 05 season, but it's debatable about how much influence CPF had on RS and his tendencies......

in fact, in 04, i think RS did a very good job as a coach considering he was working with two freshmen qb's.....

Jimbo Fisher has been at LSU since Saban took over through last year. Now he's going into his 1st year at Florida State. You must be thinking of someone else.

Yes, Cutcliffe is a great QB coach, but he is not as good as a HC or OC.

I don't know how true this is but I heard Cuttcliffe had the personality of a pet rock. If that is true when and even if Fulmer leaves/ gets fired that is one reason I wouldn't want Cuttcliffe taking over the reigns. That, and it would be a complete smack in the face to John Chavis.

For all the crap Fulmer takes and how narrow his vocabulary is when on TV and radio, he must be one hell of a charismatic guy when he steps into recruit's homes. I just don't think Cuttcliffe could keep up the top notch recruiting. Also, as you said I don't think he has what it takes to be a head coach.

Just think how cold blooded that would be to offer him the HC job before Chavis. That's Rick James cold-blooded. UNITY!!!!

Cutcliffe is widely regarded as a fantastic OC. The most productive offenses in UT history took place while Cut was OC.

True, but in my mind there is a variable there. He had maybe the best QB to ever play the game of football QB'ing for him. I'm no Offensive Coord. guru but I think there are many out there that could have done that with Manning under center.

he was successful with Tee Martin who proved he doesnt have much game when he went up to the next level.

It doesn't hurt when your defense is giving you a short field to work with a majority of the time. A offensive line that will blow anyone off the ball and 2 running backs that are currently starters in the NFL.

I'm not saying Cuttcliffe is garbage, because he is a great football mind, I just don't think he's innovative enough when he doesn't have the horses.

Cold blooded???

We're talking about the HEAD COACHING position here. You take whoever is the BEST man. This isn't some seniority system at some government bureaucracy.

Neither, IMO, are the BEST. I'm just saying if you were in Chavis' shoes and that situation panned out where they were all over Cuttcliffe about the job, to you it would be cold blooded.

A head coach needs a gravitating personality to win over kids.

Also a head coach needs good administrative skills to control his staff.

LSU's new offensive coordinator used to hold the same position at Oregon. That's what droski was getting at.

From what I read, Sanders never had the attention to detail that Cutcliffe had. I thought Fulmer gave Sanders a sheet of plays that he wanted run before a game, and thats what Sanders had to work with.

I've heard Sanders say in so many words during interviews, that the offense UT ran, is not the offense he would run if he had a free hand.

I liked how he called the NC game against Florida State but Other times I wasnt real impressed. I know you have to consider different talent levels from different years and you can only work with what you got, talent wise, plus PF putting down clamps. You also cant just look at the bad years and say he was sorry, because overall I guess he did good in 2001 as if we had not lost to LSU for the SEC, another NC prob.

I'd bet Manning was a bigger factor in that.

Many Vol fans didn't mind seeing Cutcliffe leave. His conservative style had worn on some. He's an outstanding qb coach, but as far as OC, he's nothing special.
