I'm guessing the 1st kid's parent. BTW your boy got high praise too, hell they all did to a degree.

second kids dad wrote it. He is a coach and keeps the books year round. Somehow his kid always bats higher than everybody. Dont get me wrong, he is a good kid and a good ball player, but I know for a fact that he hasnt hit but 3 home runs this year. As far as being the closer, he throws about 30 mph and was put in a game last weekend with the score being 8-2. He pitched one inning and was pulled with the score being 8-6.

with that being said, it takes all of them to make the team work, not just one player. I have just never understood having to build your kid up. I tend to let mine speak for himself. BTW, the kids who won the pitching award and the hustle award are also coaches kids.

Sadly, it's the pushy dads whose kids get more PT, attention, and what they want.

around here, if a kid isnt that good, his dad just signs up to be a coach. That way he is guaranteed to play. Thats why Leighton has played with out of town teams most of his life. Too much nepatism(sp?) around here

I never was an all star at any sport so my expectations for my kid are pretty low,

Try different sports
Have fun
If you sign up take it serious and practice hard. If you don't like it try something else.
We sign up for football tonight.

great post. I have never pushed Leighton to play anything. Only rule we have, if you start something, you finish it. Quitting is not an option. When teams call wanting him to play, I hand him the phone and let him make the decision.

Im a fan of the 3 sport athletes. My kids were never going to be great at any sport because they have their mothers genes.

I was a musician, played baseball and football. It worked well for me, til I screwed it up.....but the plan itself was very good. It has worked so far for my kids as well.

I went to a tryout with the Reds, in my hometown, Spring of 83. The scout says...and this is almost word for word:
"Boy, you could play Low A ball today and do well. By the end of next year, High A, maybe double A. You hit the curve really well, you catch everything with either your glove or your face, that means you are keeping your eye on it. Problem is you dont have the bat speed to hit high Minors Fastballs. We can coach that, but I dont think you can learn it. I recommend you go to college, play summer ball, and enjoy the hell out of it"

Hells yeah. I also played 2 years of semi pro football and was not real great at that either. But damn I had some fun.

That's us. I make him practice hard for that season and go to every practice. If he doesn't like it I tell him he can just not sign up next year but he's made a commitment and needs to see it through. Soccer was like that for him. I actually think baseball will be something his body is best suited for but he didn't have a great t-ball (mug ball I called it) experience and next year he wants to sign up and try the real version.

Random (serious) thoughts:

1: Boy, did I just stir up a dookie storm on Twitter. All I did was post my opinion on something.

2: Not a fan of rude people that begin a conversation by calling you names, that's just not cool.

3: Above everything else, you can even talk smack about my momma, but don't you DARE call me a ******* racist. I am not and never will be one, and I sincerely hate people that are.

Despite the fact that you're not new, I don't think this will end well.

So much anger in this post. Coach is cooking the books for his kid?

go to Academy and buy him a tee. Leighton is 13 and still uses the tee 3 or 4 days a week. He normally hits 100 balls every day to keep him sharp.

Let me guess...Zimmerman Trial?

Good call. Every basketball team I played on was that way. Sad thing about those dads was that their kid was good enough without the dad being a p****

That's not racist, and even plausible.

I agree. She didn't.

And isn't kind of hard to be a racist when your favorite uncle (RIP WCG) was a 6'8", 275 pound black man who wore handmade suits and a fedora every day?? Damn, Uncle Charles had some style. He was the one who taught me how to fold a pocket square, and the proper fit of a suit.
