It was good to hear from CLK that Rae Sykes had a good practice...said he was up around 270 now. This is good news for depth at DT. Now all we need is for Walls to get cleared!

Won't see him much unless he adds some weight. 270 lbs is light for a DT. Probably more on passing downs until he gets closer to 285.

Brown isn't much heavier than that is he? Walls is supposedly at 280.

I was wondering about Sykes weight and was thinking he'd need to add at least 15 lbs to his 255 to play DT... I hope he gains more but he's probably at the lower threshold.

If he's strong enough and quick enough, I'd think that 270 is heavy enough, at least to come in later in the game and spell somebody for a few snaps when both sides of the line have tired.

In a Tampa 2, Monty uses mostly lighter quicker D-lineman lets not hope they get too heavy.

Oh, we will see him. You do not know how long Wes Brown can hold out with those bad knees and there are not a lot of people standing in line right now.

Sapp wasn't huge, but he was quick and strong as hell in the lower body.

Thats really unfair to say in this instance because Warren Sapp was a freak of nature. He actually was HUGE but yet he could move like a 280 pound man.

This ^. Weight matters more when you don't have leverage. I'll take a stout 275lbs, that is quick off the ball, over 300lbs., with bad leverage and slow.

Booger McFarland was 300+, and he was a big reason the Colts went on to win the Super Bowl

I think Rae can excel at DT if he puts his mind 100% into the position switch. If he gains around 10lbs of GOOD weight, he could be a great pass-rush type DT. Hopefully Walker and Martin stay healthy so he can keep getting reps and game experience there.

Sykes at 272 is a good weight imo. He has had a good week of practice and I think his quickness will be a big asset at DT. If we can get Walls in and Brown close to healthy, I'm liking that rotation of Williams, Brown, Hughes, Walls, and Sykes...

I love the way this staff is actually coaching, & moving kids around, to fit the best of their abilities. Its nice to get coached up for a change. If we land some more good O-lineman, & a top tier QB, we will be feared! I think all other positions will fall into place, with great coaching. UT on the rise, & I think everyone else is noticing it too. This staff love their jobs, & coaching the players up to succeed. I think the old staff, just got complacent & stale! CPF was a great person, but not a great "coach" imo.
You can just feel it in the air, there is a new energy at UT now! Players are hungry, & fans are hungrier. I
CLK & staff will not rest until they put UT back on the map!
Its on now, & I love it! Let's get it!!

275 is Ok for a DT to come in on passing downs if he can keep his speed up with the extra weight, but in the SEC, you're going to want to have some bigger guys lining up in the trenches...
