Bob Kesling is a great media guy for the university. He's extremely professional, does great interviews and has a great track record of teaching players about how to engage with media. He's a great asset to UT. But he has never been a good Play by Play guy at football or basketball. He gets busy talking about something and can't catch up to the game. He'll be mid sentence and catch up to the play half way through it but forget to say the first part. It's just part of who he is. "Steps up to the line.. And the pass is caught and he's tackled across the middle.. " He doesn't have the art of the delay down pat and if he'd humble himself and learn from someone that is great at it, he could likely become amazing.. I'm not even doing the "he's no john ward thing" But he doesn't have the timing needed to pull it off. As all us have seen/joked about when Ward made calls, the play had sometimes ended 10-15 seconds ago and he was still talking about it like it was happening right then. I am not dogging Bob at all. I think that his ascension to that throne when Ward stepped down was so planned out for so long that he was already made to feel like the job was his and he was already great at it. I think if he would take the honest criticism and figure out how to get better at it, that he could be great. Was driving back from Nashville last night and caught the game on XM....man even our radio guys suck.
