Got the opportunity to meet Mr. Butkus in Las Vegas once. We chatted a minute, I got an autographed picture of him for my HS best friend who was an all-state LB himself in Georgia and shook hands. I remember how big his hands were.
RIP... My stepdad would always say that the first football player he remembers growing up was Butkus because he stood out so much at the time. I watched some footage of him,and the man was a beast and ahead of his time. Linebackers now with just half of Butkus drive would be unstoppable.
Dang. I thought Butkus was way too mean to die. I remember on a sports talk show some caller was taking shots at him and Butkus gave him an address where to meet him on air. Needless to say, the guy wasn't going to show up. RIP. One tough hombre.
I met him in the 90s at a convention.
He was personable and seemed to enjoy talking to fans.
His knees were hurting him so bad he was wincing just standing there.
