This was sent to me from a friend. It is a direct quote from Nick Saban.........

When asked if Florida had the best defense he'd ever seen:

"When Tennessee had (defensive tackle) John Henderson and that group, they probably had as talented a team as I had seen to that point - defensively as well as offensively," Saban said. "With the receivers they had - (Donte) Stallworth and (Kelley) Washington, I mean they really had a lot of talented guys."

Thanks for making that possible, Phil! That must have been when he started using donuts as the O's in X's and O's.

I'd remember them more fondly if they hadn't chosen the 2nd half of the SECCG to play their worst 30 minutes of the year.

I remember that team very fondly. I was looking forward to playing that Miami team that everyone loved so much.

That team wasn't as good as the 1990's teams IMO. Shows how things have changed in college football.

I loved watching them. It was almost unfair to have that much talent on one team.

That group made my trip to the Swamp in 2001 my best football experience outside of Neyland.

I was only 10 then, but even now, I'm not sure I have ever been as happy with the outcome of a game. That would be different if Lincoln could clear the line with a kick.

Wrong wrong wrong!
That team may have been the most talented group we have EVER had at UT, save for 1998. Although they were poorly coached! We came down with a case of fumblitus against LSU!

Saban was pretty cool last night when he climbed the case of the ESPN boys for calling the Nat. Champ. game 'David vs Goliath'. Paraphrasing, he basically told the announcers to give credit to Texas as well, not to 'downplay' them and make like it's all about Bama.
Not wishing to sound like I admire CNS, just that it was funny to hear him call out the announcers like that.

I agree with Saban, the team he is referring to is the 2001 team that Saban and LSU beat in the SEC Championship game. A lot of talent that year in Orange, after losing to LSU the Vols accepted a bid to play in the Citrus Bowl in Orlando went on to destroy Michigan 41-17.

Yea, Saban is right the Vols had a lot of talented players in those days. Too bad our coaches didn't know what to do with so much talent.

GO VOLS!

Saban was in BR getting his team ready----Plil was in NY at the espys---getting his mug on TV. Delirious even back then. That 01 team had maybe 20 NFL'ers on it.

It wasn't the espys, it was the College Football Awards Show. I believe Foolmore, Henderson, and Stephens were there.

Yeah, that game still makes me angry when I think about it. Foolmore should have been shown the door as soon as he walked into the locker room.

It was a calculated move. He doesn't want Texas to adopt that "Us against the world" mentality. Saban ain't just being nice. He doesn't want his players thinking what I am thinking------blowout.

I think Saban knows where his best competition resides for the next decade or so... and it's not from the team that Meyer coaches.

Oh I agree on the strategy.
It was just funny to hear the ESPN guys stepping on their tongues.

Without having to start another thread did anyone here him after the game in the press conference saying "we didn't come here for a moral victory". When he said that I thought he was getting a shot in on Kiffin.

I think for the most part, there's some mutual Kiffin/Saban respect.
