I've seen many of you on this forum saying things like "No good coach wants to come here." Why even believe that nonsense when it obviously isn't true. Let's look at the facts:

In 2010, Tennessee could have hired Kevin Sumlin and hired Dooley instead. Bad decision.

In 2013, Tennessee hired Jones- a midling coach from.the MAC. Bad decision.

And in 2017, Tennessee opted to hire Greg Schiano. Apparently, he was the guy all along and there was no real search to speak of. After the fan backlash and that hire getting revoked, Tennessee could have still hired Mike Leach. What did they do? They decided to hire a guy who has never been a head coach before. Bad, no, terrible decision.

What is the common denominator in all that? Bad decisions made by our admins.

So please spare me this nonsense about Tennessee being an undesirable job. We can and would get a great coach if we could just get out of our own way. Again, Mike Leach wanted the job and would have been a home run hire.

Honestly, you’re probably right. But after all those bad decisions, we would have to back up the Brinks truck to get a solid mid-tier coach in here.

You don’t wave a wand and suddenly have a better dline and Oline. I know people are tired of the excuses and there’s no excuses for some of this team’s struggles especially the Georgia state game.

Look at Nebraska and Scott Frost. He has a former ut prospect Adrian Martinez who started as a freshman last year with 2600 yds passing. He threw for 331yd and rushed for 114 yds today in a win vs Illinois

I agree with your initial point but then you crapped the bed.

Only coach that will come here is a Mid-Major or an up and coming coordinator. May get lucky and hire a good un' but the one we have got now aint him!

The program is forever haunted by who they didn't hire.

Gary Patterson, Brian Kelly, Mike Leach. Each would have taken the job. We hired idiots instead. Fulmer who could not develop future coaches or hire competent ones being given hiring duties was just another step down the road to insanity.

Tennessee will rue not hiring Gary Patterson for many, many years to come at this rate. Or Mike Leach. But more Patterson.

The reason Kiffin was hired over Patterson was Kiffin would stay under $2MM (Hammys HC threshold) with a ridiculously low buyout per year while Patterson was wanting 2.5MM

For 500,000, we could have avoided this past decade...

It just keeps piling up. One bad hire after another, one shovel onto the pile after another. It make take years at the bottom and an empty stadium before UT takes football seriously again.

We could have hired Hugh Freeze also, Les Miles, and I think we could have gotten Mullen, if we had acted fast enough.

Fans would probably be better off if they quit believing the narrative that Tennessee admin can hire competent people.

Kiffin, followed by Dooley, followed by Butch. And at this point in season 2 Pruitt isn't looking promising.

We don't have a coaching problem. We have a problem with the people hiring coaches and ADs.

Pruitt has improved the o-line, it's not spectacular but its improved. Our weak links: qb and our secondary for the most part, is that due to youth? I hate to keep harping about qb play but they touch the ball almost every play, I wish a light would turn on for them

We are probably the only Power 5 program that can Scaramucci an AD.

That takes some Grade A incompetence.

In 2017, the search was really helped by the number of unemployed big name coaches, and Mullin willing to move up. A&M showed that you could reach over all that and take Jimbo Fisher. I don't blame anybody for thinking that would be impossible, but certainly you can't just not hire a good coach that is available.
