Definitely before the Cal game. His dad overheard me talking about it on the way into the stadium out there and leaned over to assure us that it wouldn't affect him at all.

Uh....not sure you were 100% spot on, Mr. Ainge.

It was lightly taped for MSU game I saw. But, seemed a little more loose. For the long throws it is really affecting him. So I was hoping it all could come off this week.

I don't think it will be affecting him at all at this point. He has played two stellar games.

On a lofted deep ball he is fine it is the ones with zip he has been very bad over ten yards. It is the only thing I can say he has been doing badly but I think he cannot get on top of the ball with the pinky taped. I hope that is it and it will be soon fixed.

I heard Troop talk about it on Sports 56 in Memphis last week before the State game. He basically said that the staff had downplayed the severity of the injury and he was surprised that Erik could throw as well as he did early in the season, cause it was not a clean break. In his words "it was really nasty looking." That makes me think that it might not completely heal until after the season or at best before the bowl game(assuming we get to one). Troop also said that Erik worked very hard in the off season developing his body so that he would not get hurt. In previous years Erik just spent the summer throwing and working on his arm, but this year he worked his whole body. Unfortunate that Erik does all that work only to get hurt in a way that could never be prevented. I guess he should've been doing some pinky curls.

I'm not sure the finger bothers his throwing as much as some believe. He gets plenty of zip on the deep out, and that is the toughest ball a QB has to throw.

The go route to Lucas last saturday was perfectly spotted. It wobbled a bit, but that doesn't bother WRs. I think he's capable of executing the deep ones, they just aren't going to them...

I saw at least four very badly thrown balls last week. And I saw a couple versus Georgia. The announcers even caught on all sailed on him. All over ten and all ones with zip. He is and has always been very accurate on a deep ball with some loft and zip too but I am referring to the line drive variety. He has been great no doubt but those throws seem to be because of the pinky.
I just hope that is it and as the pinky improves he can make those throws later in the season or maybe this week.

I agree. I saw some bad ones too. I think he is hit or miss on those deep routes. Sometimes he throws them fine, and sometimes they look a little off.

They may not be going to the deep routes cause nearly every time he throws them he gets hit. He is our season, so the coaches may be trying to protect him a little bit. They can't do that forever. Ainge is gonna have to stand in there and take some hits if we want to beat Bama and SCar.
