This is the first year that I've really tried to follow recruiting and just wondered if it was typical for:

1. guys falling so hard for a staff and what they want to accomplish
2. guys bonding so closely before they ever even make it to school.
3. guys working so hard to recruit other players to their class

Just wonfering if this is something special.

I'd say all those things usually happen, but not to the degree this class has. Combine the energy that Butch and the staff brings with home-grown, enthusiastic legacies like Vic and it's a special thing.

I think recruits generally bond well, especially those who camp together. No one really understands what they're going through other than fellow recruits. Combine that with the accelerated visibility we have of them (facebook, twitter, youtube) and i think we just see what goes one behind the scenes. I do think it is elevated this year with our crew though and i credit that to Butch's pitch that this is their team.

As for buying in with the coaches and program, there was a lot of that in Fulmer's era.

Communications between recruits? I've not ever seen it before here at Tennessee. Then again, Twitter, FB, et. al. are basically new phenomena. I expect the communication between recruits, and recruits recruiting recruits will be the norm from now on at most every school.

I get a special feeling about this class. There is definitely something about this class that sets it apart from previous classes. I think a lot of it has to do with the character of the players we are recruiting. There is so many guys in this class that are going to be future leaders for this team its insane. If you go back and look at all the great coaches winning national championships of late, you notice that early in their tenure they were able to put together an amazing recruiting class that jump started their program. I really feel like this class is that jump start for us. Hopefully these guys propel us to new heights that we haven't had around here in a long time.

Guys like early playing time. So, they are buying in to what bUTch is saying.

Look at Florida, for instance. The last few season at Florida with Urban Meyers, he wasn't signing ALOT of 5* guys because the guys were going elsewhere to get early playing time. Now look at the roster that Florida has. Look at the recruits on the Florida team that Urban recruited. Not good players, huh?

Tennessee is the place to come to now for early playing time. So, we will get our team together and will win for a few seasons. It is now our turn.

As far as a team bonding so well. It is due to social media. Years ago, we had to call long distance in order to call other recruits. That is a huge phone bill for the parents. Also, the recruit had to be at home, by the phone, when someone called, or they would miss the call.

However; now Kelly Jr. can call Hurd or Berry and now be concerned about a long distance bill or about missing a call because was running an errand to the store.

You can always get in touch with someone because they carry their phone with them 24/7...

Yes, I believe that social media is the key, and Butch recognizes, encourages and manages the use of it. I don't know to what extent the bonding takes place in other schools, but it seems that this is a huge advantage for UT's recruiting efforts.

The bonding among recruits and prospects is another tool and selling point just like playing time, facilities, trust in the coaches, Thornton Center, etal. It seems that CBJ is using most of these tools to great effect.

I'm no fan of Meyer and never will be but his last two classes at UF were filled with high profile recruits. His last class was ranked #2 on Rivals and #1 on Scout. A lot of those kids were kicked off or transferred elsewhere.
