From what I have seen, if you stay away from Greenville and stay in JC or just North of it, it is a very nice area. ETSU's campus is not very far from "downtown" Johnson City and their are several nice neighborhoods in that area.

Johnson City is pretty nice place. It's not great, but it's ok. As for expenses, I guess it just depends on what you're looking for.

Well, I live in Kingsport and it is a great city to me. Its part of the Tri-Cities area(Kingsport,JC, Bristol) which all are nice. Do not know much to tell you though. I can try to answer any questions you have. If I can't answer it, i'll find someone that can.lol.

Don't know many specifics about neighborhoods and such but my wife is from Elizabethton about 10 min. from JC. The whole area is great although it does take some getting used to. You can really live anywhere in that area, commute times are not bad at all. If you want to get a bit farther out (approx. 20 min. from ETSU) look in the Piney Flats / Bluff City area.
