Is there a max number of games where a team can be on CBS? How many weeks does CBS get two games? Also, which weeks does ESPN get the first pick?

1 Not sure
2 CBS gets a double header the week of LSU Bama but I think they get a second one... unless theg traded it for the Friday game.
3 I don't believe ESPN gets first choice past week 2.

Not sure what the max number is. But I do recall there being a max number and it was the reason why the Egg Bowl was the CBS game instead of the Iron Bowl. But I'm sure DP will be able to go more in depth on that

I'm no deerpark, but I think the max is five CBS games. Alabama maxed out last year on CBS after five and thus the iron bowl being on ESPN last year.

1) Never seen a team more then 5 times like bigdan said, so think that's the max as well
2) Don't know off hand, but think it was 2 double headers not included the friday games on Thanksgiving weekends
3) CBS gets the first pick of the games, ESPN afterwards

According to a sports talk show here in Chattanooga, who are SEC and UGA beat writers....

1) a team cannot be on CBS more than 3 times a year (they might have changed that recently)
***It used to be CBS had to let at least every team appear ONCE during the year..which is why we saw Vandy/Tennessee play in the noon game as part of a double header....This was over 10 years ago or so, has not happened in awhile
Kentucky before last year had NOT appeared on CBS in a long time.
2) I believe there are TWO double headers during the year it varies depending on which games are important that year.
3) CBS get first pick of the game each week, it can pick the games as far in advance as it wants but has something like a 5 day window, that it can choose the game 5 days before saturday. I think they can do that a couple times during the season.

Contractually, CBS can choose to air a specific SEC team a maximum of 5 times (the conference championship game is not included in that number).

CBS gets two weekends that it can show doubleheaders each season. This year, that's been designated as Nov. 7 and Nov. 14. (The first is a 3:30pm, 8pm doubleheader, while the second is a noon, 3:30 pm doubleheader).

CBS gets first pick of games from week 3 (Sept. 19) until Nov. 28. ESPN gets first pick of SEC games in weeks 1 and 2 (This is in part because - when the contract was made - CBS still had owned the rights to show the U.S. Open during those weeks. However, CBS's contract with the U.S. Open ended last year and ESPN 2 purchased the right to show the Open. In turn, CBS bought two SEC games from ESPN for weeks 1 and 2, giving them - more or less- "second pick" those weekends).

Edit:
(I need DeerPark's verification on the number, but CBS also gets to select either 1 or 2 SEC games - such as this year's Georgia-Florida and possibly the LSU-Auburn game - to reserve before the season even starts. Well I guess it's technically 2 to 3 since they also reserve the SEC game scheduled for the day after thanksgiving, but that one's the same matchup every season...so Missouri vs Arkansas from here onward.)

That second part of number one's certainly no longer the case. At least 2014 Tennessee and 2013 Missouri serves as examples of that.

I don't think the first part of that one is correct anymore either; Alabama games were broadcast on CBS five times before the SEC Championship last season.

I wonder if CBS finally stopped picking the Florida/Georgia snoozer before the season even started.

Local Yokels .

Better than Quake and Dr B. It's like listening to Lou Holtz on the radio. B's info is good at a clip below the Mendoza line.

As for CBS, they might be going back to everyone being on at least once, I mean they picked Vandy for week two.

The cocktail party and Alabama-LSU are virtual guarantees every year for the CBS.

This is a great summary, you pretty much said it all.

A couple of corrections/clarifications:

- CBS can select as many games before the season as it wishes. They generally don't choose to because waiting ensure they get the best matchup. The only one it has to designate before the year is the Friday after Thanksgiving, for obvious reasons.

- They typically select the Cocktail party because it does a good ratings number, regardless of the team records, and the schools want that to be a day game. The city of Jacksonville needs the game time to be selected before the season, so the SEC works with CBS and ESPN to accommodate that.

- The games the first two weeks of the season that CBS purchased from ESPN do not count against the maximum 5 CBS appearances. CBS didn't have "first pick" on those games, but the SEC worked with ESPN to ensure CBS got a game that would be appealing to the audience. These games are also non-exclusive, meaning that ESPN can air an SEC game at the same time, which that cannot in any other week.

- There was once a rule that every team had to be on CBS once per season, but that's been relaxed. It's now every two seasons. Frequently CBS has used the 12:00 game on their annual Noon-3:30 doubleheader (previously their only non-exclusive time slot of the season) to help satisfy that requirement.

How much longer do you think CBS is going to subject us to the circus that is Verne and Gary?
