Hi, I'm a first time poster. I'm an English guy living in NYC. Myself and 4 other NY based English guys are coming down to Tennessee for the Georgia game in October. We're flying to Nashville and then driving to Knoxville early Saturday AM. Whats the deal with tailgating? Is there a main spot where everyone goes? Anywhere that someone could recommend? We then plan on going out in Knoxville after the game..is there a main street where all the college bars are? sorry for being vague, but could anyone give me some info to make sure we have a good night? I've never been to a college football game, and I'm coming down for less than 48 hours so I want to make sure I make the best use of my time!

There's lots of tailgating on either side of Cumberland Ave. (the Strip). If you get there 4-5 hours before game time you should be able to find street parking on either Lake, White, or Clinch Aves. I know that I've heard several VolNation members say that they like to tailgate behind Walgreen's. The Strip is not so big that you can't find things by walking around or asking people.

Some people also like to tailgate down at Calhoun's on the River. It's about 1 mi. from the Strip and 1/2 mi. from the stadium. You may be able to park at Calhoun's if you decide to tailgate there.

After the game, there are several restaurants on the Strip and some in downtown Knoxville (about 1 mi. from the Strip). Ye Olde Steak House on Chapman Hwy. has good steaks (about 5 mi.) if you are able to drive. :dance2:

Thanks for the advice! I had a question about the driving aspect....chance are we will all be extremely wasted by the end of the day so I was thinking we could just leave the car, get a cab to our hotel which apparently is about 5miles from the stadium, and then come and pick it up the next to day to drive back to Knoxville. Does that sound feasible? Is there decent cab service in Knoxville?

i would take a cab to the strip and then a cab back to the hotel. it will cost $20-$30 to park on the srtip in alot of places.

But what about tailgating..I presume you need a car for that right? If we were to just show up and walk around, would we still haev a good time even without a car?

Also, there is a chance I might have to get back to Nashville without a car as I need to be there pretty early, and my friends might be staying on in Knoxville. I've called up to get a couple of quotes and have found a few that I'll take me to Knoxville for a couple of hundred bucks, which is think is fairly reasonable. Can anyone reccomend a good car service/taxi in Knoxville?

pejp,

you don't need a car to tailgate at all. by and large, most people park the car when they get to campus on game days. if you did drive to campus, you would just park and walk from there.

I agree with the rpvol. Take a cab to the Strip and then back to the hotel that night. If you decided to go downtown or to Calhoun's (both about 1 mile from the Strip) before or after the game, a cab ride wouldn't be more than $15 (?) which isn't anything for 4 guys.

I assume that you are staying out on Kingston Pike somewhere, or off Papermill, or maybe off Cedar Bluff (Executive Park or Cross Park Dr.)? If you wanted to save a few bucks you could take the bus down to campus. It's like $1.25 per person. KAT (bus service) runs the length of Kingston Pike and goes by parts of Cedar Bluff. Then you could take a cab to the hotel that night.

Have fun!

thanks for the advice. I think we'll be getting cabs everywhere.

quick question, how much would you expect to pay for a beer in the bars around campus?
